Having a pool built and need advice

Jandy equipment kinda sucks doesn't it? I noticed randomly that the web UI for aqualink stopped recognizing that my SWG was working. A reboot of the panel at the breaker box fixed it, but I also noticed the filter pump doesn't come on anymore when switching from service back to auto mode. I have...

Full throttle is absolutely necessary? Or can I use one of my already-configured pump speeds. I have a speed preset of 3000 RPM for skimming. That's pretty close to the max. The idea you're trying to get across, I assume, is to just have it running high enough to get a larger PSI range to work with.

My CV580 seems pretty big, but it's not like I have anything to compare with... I assume it should be fine. Running at 1800 RPM means my PSI with clean filters is around 6. I shouldn't need to clean unless it hits around 8 PSI right?

Why put skimmer socks on skimmer baskets? What problem is that solving? Isn't that what the filter is for?

I wrote my list a little weird but yeah that's what I'm doing. I test 8.2 every 2 days minimum. Thanks for the info about TA.

EDIT: I asked a redundant question about pH where the answer was given to me a few weeks ago, I just forgot about it. The pH Further Reading page reminded me of the answer: It's unfortunate I have to add 32oz MA every 2-3 days but I guess it's going to be unavoidable for the next year or so.

The WAF (Wife Approval Factor) of that must be in the negatives because I got instantly shot down :ROFLMAO:

What's everyone's personal preference on pool temp before doing regular swimming? I tried 75 degrees and it's WAY too cold. Also: Any tips on preventing sun burn? I try spray-on sunscreen but I don't have much luck with that. And there's, sadly, not a lot of shade in my pool.

What did you do to your pool today?

I created a VLAN on my network specifically for garbage IOT devices, to which Jandy is a member :)

I noticed my Polaris Quattro cleaner not moving last night despite the booster pump being on and working. Based on my Google searching, looks like I might need to take it apart and see what is going on. Maybe some gears are jammed somewhere. If anyone has any advice before I start that process...

I found this thread, which was enlightening: Winterizing in Gulf Coast Texas Basically: Keep pool running 12 months a year. Which makes sense. This means I'll still be checking CL in the winter but not as often.

I need to find a Texas guide to pool winterization. I see at least one or two threads in the forum about winterizing in my state. I'll need to take the time to read them.

What pool? I'm in Texas, as you know, and the above picture is really rare. And if it does happen, it is usually unexpected. I'll do some more searching and learning on the forum and see how far I can get.

The Winterizing In-Ground pool page in pool school makes the winterization process look rather involved. I thought the gist of it was to just leave water in the pool and keep the pumps running if there's a chance of freezing. I also don't have a pool cover, nor do I know if I need it, or if I...

Not testing for 6 months sounds scary... what do you do about pH? Isn't it constantly going up? And in the winter months, the SWG gets turned off due to low water temps. How do you know the CL won't drop to 0, or low enough to cause an algae problem?

Couple of questions about logging in pool math: How important is it that I log chemical additions in PoolMath? Looking at some of the logs of folks that have replied here, looks like everyone is logging additions. I haven't been logging them because I've been following the advice of just...

I ordered a refill for my test kit since they were on sale and I wanted to support the site. Based on everything I've learned, I did a few things: I wrote the number of drops needed for each reagent on its lid. For whatever reason, it's impossible for me to memorize the drops needed for the CH...

Maybe I can replace the plate with something like these? https://www.amazon.com/Flow-Pool-Overflow-Drain-Upgrade/dp/B08H8W8M2R Pool Overflow Drain Stopper, Snap On Overflow Drain Adjustable Plate

What do you mean logically connected? Well I can adjust the autofill but I can't adjust the drain. How do you suggest I adjust the drain? Is there a face plate I can swap out that has the grilles higher up so that it allows a higher water line?

Having a pool built and need advice

So I recently adjusted the float actually because I felt like the water line was maybe 1" too low (it was certainly below the half-way point of the waterline tile). There's a butterfly screw that you loosen which allows me to adjust the float. It is held in place by these "gears" or "teeth" so...

The float is shown in the second picture of my earlier post. The white thing. Is that what you're talking about?

I performed an experiment... shot water into it using my water hose and checked if water came out of the popup drain in the yard... sure enough, it did. So this is a drain. Is this a weird spot for an overflow drain?

Having a pool built and need advice

I already confirmed that the autofill is coming out of an eyeball in my pool. So I'm not sure what this mysterious pipe is for... I assume since it has a grille that it is a drain.

Having a pool built and need advice

I noticed this pipe connected right next to one of my skimmers today. Is that for draining the water when the level gets too high? The second picture shows a tiny hole in the auto-fill valve bucket thing that I initially thought was for the overspill, but now I'm having my doubts. I really hope...

Having a pool built and need advice

I am at 10ppm CL today, so it remained the same at 15%. Looks like I'll keep it here for now until I start seeing it go down in the summer. Pretty crazy the output this SWG has. I would have thought 15% is nothing. Regarding keeping the spa clean, I know we talked about this before a little. I...

Having a pool built and need advice

I run my pump from 8AM to 12AM (16 hours). I decided to do that based on how others shared they set up their pump run times. What reason do I have to run for 24 hours? Isn't less run time better for my electricity bill and lifetime of the pump itself?

Having a pool built and need advice

In fairness, it's not just two numbers. There's ideal range, target range, SLAM range (which I didn't even know because I haven't had to do it yet). You are right about me over thinking things. But that's not on purpose, that's just out of ignorance & inexperience. Of course I wouldn't rather...

Having a pool built and need advice

I think the advice I read earlier was to make sure it doesn't go over 10ppm. The upper end of my target range appears to be 11. I'll keep adjusting down until I get a good feel for the behavior. Honestly I'm a little concerned that the SWG is going to be a constant maintenance burden. With all...
