    Couple post SLAM questions/concerns

Maybe I have lucked out. My FC levels are still at 15.5, by I've measured pH anyway and getting around 7.3. Hopefully it's at least in the neighborhood of being accurate since the FC levels are getting close to 10. So, maybe the continued aeration and that box of borax did help to get the pH...

    Couple post SLAM questions/concerns

No uncertainly didn't.... I thought I would bring my TA down to where it needs to be (I did use pool math for the calculations) and then if I can keep aerating the pool at the same time, I'd keep the pH up somewhat. Again, all if it was me thinking I can deal with alkalinity while chlorine...

    Couple post SLAM questions/concerns

My pH was already low before I started the SLAM. 7-7.2. I'm not testing pH as I know the test will not be reliable, it's just me thinking since my pH was already low, by adding 2 gallons of Muriatic acid, it's probably much lower at this point. I only added one box of borax btw. I was hoping...

Thank you Richard. Glad I didn't let the fam in the pool. Live and learn. Adding Borax now.

    Couple post SLAM questions/concerns

I successfully completed the SLAM process few days ago, couldn't be happier with the results. In the mean time as I'm waiting for CF levels to drop (still at 22.5ppm today and keeping the pool continuously open as we're finally getting sunlight today!), I decided to deal with my TA levels as I...

thanks Tim, should have searched first, but got a bit freaked out by it...

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

yep. just did a quick search and that's it. looks like high chlorine count is screwing up the dyes in the re-agent, though the test is still valid on when its turning blue to yellow.

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

Tim, are you certain that TA testing is not effected by high chlorine count? My FC is still at 26.5ppm an I just tried to test TA and the test isn't behaving the way it should, instead of turning red from green, it turns blue and then yellow. My first thought was my re-agents went bad, but I...

ah ok. I thought the TA was as well. My TA was at ~120 before I started with the SLAM and I need to get it down to 80-ish level because SWG. So I can then get cracking on this today since now I don't have to wait to test it. Thanks!

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

Tested again this morning just to be sure and still looks good. FC=27ppm, CC=.2ppm. One question folks, what FC level should I wait for it to drop to, so I can run the rest of the tests and not get skewed results?

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

Looks like I'm at the end of tunnel folks! Measured at 6:30pm and FC was holding steady at 27.5ppm (loss off .5). CC is again at pretty much zero. So I think I can call this SLAM session a success!!! Big thanks to all who have helped in this and the other thread! All in all, took just about 15...

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

I hear that... We've actually had an uncharacteristically worm and dry april/may. I don't remember weather like that since the 90's. This is actually our first major rain storm and cold spell of the spring. I keep thinking, some lucky people who were building pools this spring around here...

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

I'm wondering if I had a fluke result with CC when I tested at 8:30 this morning... As I added more chlorine and re-tested around 9:30am, CC was back to around .2ppm again. Anxious to see the results when I get back home from work.

Can't get a breakthrough on shock

Motorin, the gallon of bleach you put in will likely just go to waste as it'll likely take quite a bit more to get your pool healthy. I'm at about 15 gallons so far (10gl of 12.5% and 5gl of 8.3%) and on the 3rd day of SLAM. What you need to do is, once you get your k-2006 kit, do the full...

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

interesting... Maybe it has something to with evaporation as the cover certainly preventing from that happening to the larger degree. I'll have the pool sit open today, since there's no chance of sun today anyway.

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

I know right... CC was looking so good for the last 3-4 tests or so and all of a sudden its up. Well, weather is still **** today, cold and rainy, so adding another 14oz to level back up at 28. will see by tonight.

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

Morning test at 8:30 am, almost 12 hours later and only .5ppm loss, measured at 27.5ppm of FC! So by the look of it I just passed OCLT! However, my CC went up a tad, as it pretty much zero before and now i measured it at around .8ppm. What does that mean? Do i still have an issue?

Latest bout with algae - SLAMMING!

Another test at 9pm, loss of 2ppm as FC down to 26. Adding 56oz of 8.3% bleach to get back to 28ppm. CC = 0. Will retest in the morning, hopefully this will be it.

    Rain does affect pool chemistry

This thread is making me happy to have an auto cover. Cover pump takes care of the rest :D On the retrospect, we, here on east coast been enjoying a much more dryer spring then usual. This week is actually a first serious thunderstorm/****ty weather/cold/down pouring week we've had in 2 months...

    K-2005 Kit Upgrade?

You probably have k-1000 kit as k-2005 kit does include CYA reagents and test tube with a dot (doubled as OTO chlorine test tube). I've upgraded from k-2005 to k-2006 as I'd rather have smaller sizes and restock as needed on fresh chemicals, then have some sitting around for too long, since...

Can't get a breakthrough on shock

Don't get fooled by the crystal clear water man... I'm going through same right now. For the last three weeks, my water was beautifully clear, but just like you I could not keep my FC to save my life. I've randomly dropped few pounds of shock here, 2 gallons of bleach there thinking that would...

    Bleach Prices 2015

In Baltimore (Owings MIlls area), I've been buying 8.25% at Walmart and Costco @ $3.80/gl My local Home Depot cost is $4.25/gl for same bleach. Expensive. Until I went to Leslie's. Local Leslie's price was $25 for 5gl of 12.5% and subsequently when you return to buy more and have jugs to return...

Oh I realize that, I mean... it's plenty open on the sunny days as pool is used pretty frequently, I just don't like to keep it open at night, when I'm treating it or the weather is bad. We got quite a bit of wind today with all kinds of debris flying around. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

so looks like im still in the maintain stage. down to 21.5 FC overnight. CC is staying around 0.2ppm im out of 12% bleach so switching to 8.3%, adding 1.5gl to get back up to 28ppm. today is a perfect day for this, overcast and rain all day, temps are in the 60's, so the pool will be covered all...
