I don't know how a through wall skimmer would work on an easy set. The top ring is always floating on the water surface. If you put the skimmer a few feet below the ring or right up to the bottom of the ring it won't matter the skimmer will be slightly under water.
I wouldn't too much about getting the TA lowered by going through the lower pH aerate and repeat and repeat and repeat. Just know that the high TA will make your pH slowly rise and you can lower it pH when it goes up.
What I've noticed with taking the Intex pools down every year is that with all the folding, moving, unfolding, repeat....they will develop many pinhole leaks. That's why I now leave mine up all year round, even here in MN where they freeze solid.
I'd get a new 3 way kit. After a few years the reagents don't seem to be accurate anymore. You'd be fine just keeping chlorine and ph in check for a while.
Re: Cautionary Tale of a Pool, Fed Up, Frustrated, Lost & Sinking In The Deep End!
WI is Menards territory. They have 12.5% bleach (pool shock) for $3.99. In about a month it'll be on sale for $2.50. I get all my bleach there.
What about the Intex Ultra 26x52? Keep checking walmart.com they will be in stock. You missed the cheapest prices for them in early February. They seem to get more every 2-3 weeks. The price goes up a little every time this time of year. Check every day and you'll find one between $650 to $800.
Insulation under the pool is personal preference for a soft smooth pool floor, not a necessity.
Not sure about the edging, haven't tackled that one yet on mine. I've read that the rubber mulch isn't that great because it can stick to wet stuff and end up in the pool.
Pavers under the legs are a...
In Joplin MO I bet the ice isn't too thick at all, I bet less than an inch. I'd break a hole in the ice and start siphoning out the water, a big pool hose will drain it fast. The ice will break up when the water isn't supporting it and can be scooped out.
Be careful folding that pool up in...
The cover that came with the pool is full of holes and it will slowly sink. This is my first year closing also but I would not use the cover that came with it. I used it during the summer and it is starting to fall apart after 3 months. I don't think it would hold up after a long winter.
Just an update for the thread. The Intex 26x52 Ultra has been out of stock at Walmart for the past few months, pretty much the last half of summer. I'll update again when they come back around and keep updating through spring. That way there will be a years worth of price changes documented...
Exactly what Texas Splash said. I would however replace the Intex cartridge with a Unicel cartridge. They seem to work much better at collecting the fine particles (dead algae?) that are causing the cloudiness.
I'm glad you gave it another try and excited to see how it turns out. Are you going to mount it a little lower to compensate for the square wood vs the round metal frame?

I agree unless you get a bigger pump. I have the 2500 gal/hr pump and putting the flow reducer in the other intake chokes too much water from the pump.
I got the Intex pool skimmer kit thing and it came with a piece that screws inside the pool inplace of the original suction cover. I can unhook the skimmer and hook the vacuum hose to it. The kit also came with a plug for the second suction hole when vacuuming.
Great videos! I was thinking about getting one but wasn't sure how well they work, don't have to wonder anymore. Could you post a picture of your pump setup? I also have the 2500 pump and a 2nd spare one and Unicel filters.
Great thread, I'm bookmarking this one, just put up the 26' Ultra and was wondering what to do over the winter with it here in MN. Are you pretty happy with how it worked over the winter? Would you do anything different?
I'm trying to document the price of these pools over the course of a year so anyone planning on getting one of these has an idea when they can get the best deal, but right now the price is jumping all over!
Yesterday the price dropped a lot. One could be ordered for $676, but today it's jumped...
For anyone reading this and trying to figure out how to best put one of these up there is one thing I would try different.
I would try putting the pavers in after the pool is constructed, like how they did in the video I linked in post #14. The reason I say this is that it was really hard to...
Wouldn't those lateral forces be transfered to the top rail the same as a factory setup, the only difference is those forces would then be transfered to the deck.
