    Testing beside the pool

You have a good system. But that is way too much walking for me. I get a large clean drinking glass and take my sample ensuring I have way too much pool water for my testing needs. I then crack open a drink and set it on the side table. Then begin my first test using a syringe to pull the...

How often does everyone clean DE Filter grids

Clean it when the pressure rises 25% FROM the clean pressure. Break down the filter and fully clean the grids. Reassemble the filter. Run your pump at ~3000 rpm and take note of the pressure. This is your starting pressure. Resume normal operation. Periodically, bump your pump to 3000 RPM...

How often does everyone clean DE Filter grids

I do not backwash my DE filter. I'm in a colder climate, but typically open in mid-March and close in mid-November. I charge my filter at opening and typically need to clean it once during the season. So, when it does need to be cleaned I will do a full tear down and fully clean the grids...

Want to setup nodejs-poolController to do some automation - lots of questions!

I run it on a Raspberry PI 2 and it performs quite well. It lives outdoors as well, I mounted mine in the low voltage area of my EasyTouch 8 which is in full sun most of the day. Heat has not been an issue. Have you come across this thread yet? Lots of good information in here...

New and confused about FC level

Your chlorine is rising because the SWG is set higher than it needs to be. Good job on turning it down, keep adjusting it until you find the sweet spot where the chorine remains stable. You can adjust % output as well as pump run time until it finds the balance. I have to adjust my output a...

RJ60+ No error lights, no chlorine generated

I don't want to leave this thread out there hanging so I thought I would post the resolution. We called CircuPool and their customer service rep was pretty good to work with. He had us check a few things with the generator and eventually asked that we send it in for repair/inspection. As of...

RJ60+ No error lights, no chlorine generated

Appreciate your input. I'll have him call them. His TA is up there. His fill water is high TA and he drained/refilled half the pool prior to SLAM. Plan is to work that down now that he is post-SLAM.

RJ60+ No error lights, no chlorine generated

Thank you for the replies. Yes, the cell size is set correctly. I did press the super chlorinate button, it illuminates but does nothing else. It does seem like the cell is properly connected and I do not see any obvious damage to the connector. Turning on the system with the cell...

RJ60+ No error lights, no chlorine generated

I am helping a friend of mine with his pool. I helped him build it last year. He opened the pool in late May and he did a mini-SLAM to begin the year. It took him a few days to get to all exit criteria, but all went well and he eventually powered on his heater and SWG. All was well. A few...

Never thought I'd ever have to worry but I need outdoor security cameras!

I have this Night Owl system with 5 cameras connected covering every nook and cranny outside of our house. Mine is a wired system, but they do have wireless systems available. Everything is accessible through the phone using their app. I also have it wired to one of the TV's in our house and...

    Algae with Chlorine Lock

@Pool PhD - I'm glad they printed the test results out for you. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they were printed on 2-ply paper so it won't be good for what I would use it for. Throw the test away and order a proper test kit. While you're waiting for the kit, ADD NOTHING to your water...

Pretty, confused. New Caldera Seychelles spa with “fresh water salt system”.

Thank you for the test results. PH Down, I still would recommend that you discontinue using that product as it adds other things to the water that you do not want, especially with a salt generator. Use Muriatic Acid to lower PH instead, do not add liquid chlorine and muriatic acid at the same...

Pretty, confused. New Caldera Seychelles spa with “fresh water salt system”.

I see you are using a TF100 for testing, good job. I think you should start by posting a full set of test results. Second. PH UP is not dry acid. I would recommend discontinuing use of that product and simply use baking soda if your alkalinity needs to be raised. Raising the total...

    Jandy Valve questions

Attached is the current valve setup on the intake to the pump. If it matters, the Main Drain is in the middle, the two outward valves are the skimmers.

    Jandy Valve questions

Thank you both for the reply. I want the system to close both the skimmers and fully open the main drain when the heater is actively heating. Then close the main drain and open the skimmers when the heater is turned off. Is this possible given the current equipment? I'd love to be able to...

    Jandy Valve questions

I've got some general questions on the Jandy valves. We built our pool a few years ago and the only complaint I have ever had is the valves that my builder used on the suction side of the pump. Currently, there are 3 ball valves controlling the input from each skimmer and the main drains...

    Pentair housing bolt washer.

That is a standard machine nut/bolt combination. Probably #6 or #8. Your local hardware store will sell kits with 5-10 of those washers in it, or you could buy a kit that has the nuts, bolts and washers. You could take one off and match up the size at the hardware store.

Pentair IntelliCenter Pool Control Dashboard Instructional Guide

Hey by owner builds, do you leave an icechest out for your contractors?

I was not an owner build. But, we had the same crew every single day. They typically brought their own cooler full of drinks and snacks. Our build took about 3-4 weeks and the crew would drive home each Saturday evening (120 miles). Since I wasn't able to do much for them during the week...

High TA fill water - got an aeration idea....

I try to keep my CSI slightly negative to prevent scaling in my Salt Generator. I don't remember the exact numbers when I chose to lower the TA, but CH is/was in the 400 range and TA was at 200 which gave me a CSI nearly 0.3 with PH at 7.5, higher when PH would rise naturally. If I recall...

High TA fill water - got an aeration idea....

As the title says, I have fairly high TA fill water. My fill water TA has risen from 125 three years ago to 300 this past summer. I'm not really sure whether changes in TA on city water are common or not, but this past season I had to test PH more often and obviously had to lower PH more often...
