Faulty Jandy Valve Actuator - Spa Jets

You have to fully remove it and check the gear assembly beneath the motor. Could be an issue there. The valves are rebuild able if you wish to spend the time on them. None of the parts are all that expensive. If you plan to rebuild and tinker with them in the future, it’s best to have a...

Pentair Filter tore and pool lost 70 percent water night

That pool was very green. DE filters load up very quickly with algae and I suspect the loading caused the pressure in the filter to be quite high. That and an after-market clamp with improper install (possibly overtightened) caused the shell to crack. I don’t think it’s vandalism. The...

DIY PH measurement and CO2 Injection System- Project Summary

Borates reduce scaling inside the SWG cell because borates act as a high pH buffer (pKa ~ 9.2) and so the buffering strength is greatest at higher pH. Therefore the water inside the cell cannot get to very high pH which reduces the amount of carbonate ions around and thus impedes the formation...

Looking for latest / best Water softener solutions installed at the equipment pad

They do sell small, portable ion exchange resin filters that remove calcium. They have to be manually regenerated and can typically process a few hundred gallons of water at a time. Using the filter you show there as a pre-filter to an RV water softener would extend the useful life of the ion...

    Draining after using ascorbic acid

24-36 hours should remove most stains. If the stains are from copper, ascorbic acid won’t touch them. If they are organic stains, ascorbic acid will not lift them. You don’t want to leave the water in the pool too long as AA reduces free chlorine to zero and you can cause an algae bloom.

    A new fur-baby has arrived …

Crate training is key. When Meringue (the 4 year old) was a puppy, we were consistent in that and, even though we could never train her to go in on her own, all I had to do was put my hand on her back and walk her in the direction of the crate and she went right in with no hesitation. She...

    Cloudy Pool after flooding

Just remember to clean your filters right away once the clarifier helps reduce the cloudiness. Clarifiers and flocs can load up the filter media and cause irreversible damage to the filter elements in terms of increased baseline pressure. Flocs are far worse in that regard.

Meet Marshmallow (not sold on the name yet but it’s growing on me …) - She is Meringues little sister (from the same parents) - As you can see, they are spitting images of one another. Marshmallow still has her puppy fur which is a bit darker than Meringue’s so we’ll see how that changes...

    Copper algaecide recommendations?

When you are ready to resurface your pool, I would suggest you use a mechanically polished plaster with no aggregate. Hydrazzo plaster is very well regarded for that type of finish but it is expensive and it does require the applicator to be trained and know what they are doing. The polishing...

    How do decide on builder?

You should ask the builders for a list of references of pools they have recently built and then call or visit those references. If a builder refuses to give you reference checks, that’s a huge red flag.

    Recs for pool cleaner

Get a low cost robot cleaner, Dolphin type or similar brand, with fine filters and just expect to replace it every 3-5 years as that seems to be the going life time these days. The ledges and steps make it unlikely that the cleaner will reach the water line. There is no cleaner in existence...

    Darkening of pool floor-deep end

Basically yes. Jacks Magic protocol for lifting copper stains using their #2 product is to add a large bucket, several pounds worth, of the #2 copper and scale stuff (it’s just sulfamic acid) and then add lots of sequestering agent. The stains will lift. The problem is that sulfamic acid...

    Gunite Pool Rehab

Directing rain water from gutter to pool

At the very least look into slime bags for filtering - https://www.slimebag.com/ They can be very useful for capturing a lot of fines and they will also capture algae as well. If you drain the rain barrel slowly through them, the water you add should be fairly clean and all you would want to...

Directing rain water from gutter to pool

I would suggest some simple filtration prior to putting the water into the pool. As others have stated, roof water is dirty and rain barrels can grow algae if they are not treated with chlorine. Around here in the desert, rain collection systems are pretty common but most use the water for...
