Have you used a 3D CAD program to draw and accurately calculate your pool volume? Which program did you use?

I used Fusion 360 to model my pool to calculate the volume. I took lots of measurements of everything during refurbishment when it was empty. I also took hundreds of photos and used photogrammetry software to create a 3d model that could then be sized correctly between known points to calibrate...

Searching for thread about custom DIY automation & best temperature sensors IOS

I'm in the process of building out a load of automations in Home Assistant to control my pool. I only have a limited set of sensors at the moment but in the process of adding more. For building temperature and humidity I use zigbee temperature sensors from Aqara. I currently measure the water...

FC Testing: Taylor k2006 vs DPD 1 Photometer and Rapid tests

I don't really understand why @SteveSwims is getting such different results. I've currently got my pool at 4ppm FC and across my Taylor, PoolLab 1.0, PoolLab 2.0, Lovibond Pooltester Multipooltester 5 in 1 (DPD-1 rapid) I get very close readings - within 0.5ppm (but I did start with 10ml for the...

FC Testing: Taylor k2006 vs DPD 1 Photometer and Rapid tests

On the subject of things that are banned here, Muriatic Acid (more commonly called Hydrochloric acid) is massively restricted and requires a background check and government registration in order to buy a small quantity.

FC Testing: Taylor k2006 vs DPD 1 Photometer and Rapid tests

As I understand it they are actually restricted across the EU since 2019 (and the UK copied and pasted all those EU laws when it left). There are restrictions on high potassium component chemicals which fall under the classification of "explosives precursors" Regulation - 2019/1148 - EN -...

FC Testing: Taylor k2006 vs DPD 1 Photometer and Rapid tests

The pool lab 2.0 does support user calibration but that obviously requires another method with which to test and verify it. The test kit options available in the UK are basically test strips and photometers. FAS-DPD isn't legally available here so there are some real challenges to follow TFP...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

That's an interesting skimmer/return combo, I can see how it would easily go straight in the skimmer. Might be worth a bit of experimentation pouring left/right of it to see if it has more of a chance to disperse. The volume does sounds about right, I would reduce your chlorine % down another %...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

I see your PoolMath logs now, not sure why they weren't showing up before. If you're finding that adding the amount of chlorine recommended by PoolMath doesn't get you up to the target when testing after 30 minutes you might have either the pool volume too low (how did you find out the volume?)...

Ta - should I bother reducing?

You can always do a quick check of water hardness by looking at the test reports on your water supplier website (they're obligated to make these available). This is my local one Might be best to post about the swim jet issue in a separate thread with as much detail and photos as you can, not...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

Good to hear you're now swimming! If you do see more than 1ppm of chlorine loss a day with the cover on (and not swimming in it) you should double check you don't have algae with the OCLT, make sure you follow the instructions carefully for it to be a worthwhile test: Perform the Overnight FC...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

Yes don't dilute it, it just makes everything more awkward. As previously mentioned you should add it in front of the return (don't pour it into the skimmer) with the pump running and it will mix very fast. If I add 500ml I would probably take up to a minute to pour it in, pretty much as slowly...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

I bought a lot of different tests while trying to assemble my own comprehensive kit. I've got the PoolLab 1.0 and 2.0 and do quite like the PoolLab. I considered doing a side by side comparison of the Taylor and PoolLab but haven't got round to it, might be interesting to do. I would probably...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

The test kit options aren't good for following the TFP methodology (chlorine testing is the problem). I made a summary when I last looked here: UK Pool Test Kits Simce I wrote that the PoolLab 2.0 came out which does have a high range chlorine test available but it works out about £0.60 a test...

Ta - should I bother reducing?

pH minus (dry acid) is readily available in the UK and is the easiest option here to decrease TA unless you're willing to go through the EPP licence process. You will see a lot of advice on here to only use muriatic acid but we've got to work with what's actually available here. I've got the...

Ta - should I bother reducing?

It's worth mentioning if you're planning to try to bring your TA down you can't really buy muriatic acid (normally called hydrochloric acid here) in the UK as it's a regulated substance these days (the laws were brought in after a spate of attacks with corrosive substances). It's possible if you...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

The general indoor pool recommendation seems to be to keep the humidity around 50-60% and the air temperature 2degrees above the water temperature (Our essential guide to controlling the humidity of indoor pools). I'm guessing that's a dantherm dehumidifier that will probably use anything from...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

In an ideal world the dehumidifier will run 24/7, your electricity bill might make you change your mind on that. I only run my pump for an hour a day if I'm not using the pool and the cover is on, and when adding chemicals/heating the water. Because it's indoors you're not going to get much...

Moved House - Now Have A Pool

I decant what the PoolMath app says I need into a plastic measuring jug and slowly pour it in neat front of the return (with the pump running). The only downside to those bottles above is they glug when they're really full so I pour them over the water so I don't have to deal with spillage. If...

Scrolling issue in TFP forums in browser?

It seems to be a bug in the ThemeHouse UI.X theme relating to the javascript pinning of the sidebar. If you make your browser window narrow enough (less than 1200px wide) that the left hand sidebar is hidden the issue doesn't occur. If you disable javascript the issue doesn't occur.

    Quick comment on PoolMath update

On Android when the keyboard pops up it now covers the remaining fields so you have to close the keyboard to get to the lower down fields and to see the CSI then select another field to get the keyboard back. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I thought you could still scroll down with the keyboard...

Cheap VFDs for three phase pumps

Would be interested to know what pump and VFD you are using. I looked into variable speed pumps and in the UK the options are limited and very expensive. I don't think I would ever see a return on investment on a variable speed pump even with the high electricity prices here. I took at look at...

AGP in the UK & considering a bioheater diesel/propane based heater - anyone any experience with please?

I came across this site which sells various enclosures when I was looking for a new liner for my pool - Swimming-Pool-Enclosures Maybe the Abrimobile enclosure might work for an above ground pool. For planning permission a pool enclosure can potentially be permitted as "permitted development"...

The heatpump absolutely has to be outside the enclosure. The manual will set out the minimum free air spaces around it e.g.
