Yesterday was my last DE change

Why are you lifting the filter? I backwash, open air port, open drain, remove tank lid, then remove each grid individually. Clean all and put back in tank. I'm guessing not much different than cleaning 4 cartridges, except you're cleaning 8 grids. I do see it's a bit easier to go cartridge...

Yesterday was my last DE change

I use Fiberclear, delivered from Amazon, not heavy. I may stick with the DE tank for another year.

Yesterday was my last DE change

2-3 times a year seems like a lot. I'm thinking of the DE to cartridge switch too. I backwash maybe twice a year, it's the once a year breakdown and grid cleaning I hate, but really only takes an hour or so. If it takes 30 minutes to clean cartridges, that sounds almost as bad. Plus all the...

    Economics of my SWG

Yeah, when I was buying bleach I ordered from Walmart shipped (was free shipping over $35), since I'm 25 miles away from closest one.

    Economics of my SWG

That's only 81oz; Walmart gallon 10% at $5.67 is best price around. I buy about 1 gallon per year now that I'm on SWG. HEB 121oz is $5.19.

    Circupool Sales?

Good news on what I thought was a bad cell, check cell light finally went out! My solution was to use https://a.co/d/2Mkf0L6 with 9% vinegar. Cloudy "bubbles" lasted much longer than usual (after running snake up and down a few times), maybe 20-30 minutes. Next day, led was out. Hoping to...

    DE to Cartridge switch

Here's a current image of waste pipe (front right). I plan on removing the lower Jandy and everything to left of upper Jandy (that will go to waste). That 4 way at bottom: down goes to pool, right goes to a jet (was a booster line), left is Stenner pump input (acid), up is from SWG. "Fun"...

    DE to Cartridge switch

Curious about the heater not being used. I turn it off in October and back on in March. I let water run at 100% (1850rpm) all year (10 years). I don't close. I try to keep pH above 7.2 all year. I do plan on a bypass and 2 extra unions to get plumbing out of the way in case my 10 year old...

    DE to Cartridge switch

Texas, 3-way is fine. I plan on adding a 3-way to bypass the heater (although I can't see a reason for it). If the heater dies, you live without heat for a week or two.

    DE to Cartridge switch

Ok, looking for comments for my DE to cartridge conversion. This is my current setup. I plan on removing those old pump valves and replacing with one 3-way, easy. Currently my SWG feeds the heater, I plan on replumbing to after heater (leaving it roughly where it is). If you zoom in you...

Best place to buy muriatic acid?

That was my first choice, but out of stock.

Best place to buy muriatic acid?

Made the trip to Ace. $9.99, no case discount bought 4 anyway. Doesn't have the yellow tint I'm use to, but says 31%.

Best place to buy muriatic acid?

It seems our local Home Depot quit carrying muriatic acid. It doesn't show up on Lowe's site either. Where are you guys buying it? I'm in Austin.

    Cleaning up my SWG

A cell cleaning tip (I believe I read about here), I just did my first cleaning with one of these. Perfect thickness and length. https://a.co/d/8uKHS6L Also redoing some plumbing and planning on adding 30# of borates.

    Union parts.

Decided to clean my cell. Looks like the o-ring/groove is on the part I'm keeping. This has a taper on it that's not on any of the other pictures. Probably not needed, since it just needs a flat surface. Looks like metals are getting into the water, but this is 18 years.

    Union parts.

Agree. The question is even buying the whole assembly, you don't know which side the o-ring is on. Some have the o-ring on the part on the right. I'll be taking it apart next time I clean the pump or SWG.

    Union parts.

Thanks. I see a 400-5090 (I'm sure that's the assembly), but it's not broken down into it's parts (like the ones above it). Looking for "C", maybe 417-5040? Yeah I could buy the whole thing, but if the other part is available, why not? After looking closer, it's either 417-5040 or 417-5040B...

    Union parts.

It's there a source that defines union part numbers? I have a couple 2" white unions, with "415-5090" on the nut. I'd like to keep the nut side and buy what it's screwing into. My plumbing is lacking enough straight pipe not to keep the nut side. I'm going to convert my DE filter to a...

Waterway Cartridge Filter Review.. Now with pics...

I know this is an old thread, but I'm about to buy the Waterway 325. Just curious why you have a valve after the pump. I plan on a 3-way for waste, but after the pump seems a bit odd. What size pool is this on, and how's it doing? There's a good deal on Walmart that comes from In The Swim...

Air coming out of one jet

If SWG pool, that's normal. As for the creepy, pump speed fast enough? I got rid of mine 12 years ago, electric robots much more convenient.

    DE to Cartridge switch

Curious if Waterway 3-way valves are as good as Jandy. Or maybe Pentair: https://a.co/d/75O0BRF Is CPVC worth it? I don't plan on any automation. $50 seems a good price for a 3-way. 🤣

    DE to Cartridge switch

Example of my setup. As you can see, plumbing needs a big redo. Two Jandy 3-way valves should do the trick, one for pump, one for new filter. I'll probably reposition the SWG, since it's before the heat pump. Curiosity, do the multiport valves have a position where they reverse the flow...

    DE to Cartridge switch

Yes cartridges are $120-$150 for 4. I was referring to the whole filter, the 320 is $400 more than the 240.
