First Week of Doing Own Chemicals

Hey there HRMaddie!!! Most years I don't spend more than $150.00 on pool needs. Of course my cover helps avoid excess evaporation, and chlorine loss to the sun (but we like it open most days during the daytime). I use a Salt Water Chlorine Generator (SWG) which keeps me safe and algae free for...

Copper in Pool / Sequester Recommendation

How old is your house? Could it have copper plumbing?

    Why is FC still zero?

Are you sure the initial chlorine you added was fresh? We prefer to buy liquid chlorine that is no older than 3 months, and hasnt been stored in the sun outside which weakens it. CYA also degrades a little each month in the pool... time for more! Maddie :flower:

    Sand pump

Hi there, and Welcome to Trouble Free Pools  Under normal use sand in the pool filter never needs changing, unless some odd chemical concoction has been used in the pool and gums up the sand. Pool stores sometimes promote the idea of needing sand changed so they can sell new sand. BUT...

"Pearluster" (ie embossed) finish on liner - worth it? or a headache to keep clean?

Yeah, I agree. I prefer liners all the way to the edge and no border.

What did you do to your pool today?

We've opened the pool after 9 months closed up (yes, shamefully nine). No CYA, needs salt, FC 7.5, pH meh-ok.... in bad need of a good brushing. lordie, I can't wait till summer. Maddie 🇮🇹

Aqua pure 1400 high salt reading

I'd leave the device alone as if you get in there fiddling you *could* mess something up. Trust the test kit. If you want to add 80 pounds of salt that will take you to aprox. 3000. Maddie :flower:

Trash Pump vs Portable Pool Pump for Initial Cleaning

Starting new season for pool in East Texas

Go ahead and SLAM it at the 30 CYA level- it will take less liquid chlorine to meet your goal then. As the season's temps rise, raise the CYA accordingly.

Starting new season for pool in East Texas

CYA first and immediately then I personally would raise my chlorine level using liquid chlorine and then SLAM. You can add any needed salt while the SWG is still "off", and then deal with the other levels. Next work on setting the SWG up to maintain the desired level. Remember it works slowly...

    Hello

WooioHoo!! Take pics!! Start a thread in the "Under Construction" subforum and let us hear all about it. If you tell us all about your chosen equipment we can help you in case a better option is out there while you still have time to make changes. Maddie :flower:

    Hello

Hey there!!! Sorry to read you're dealing with algae. First bit of advice is: STAY OUT of the Pool Store!! They'll rob ya blind with questionable results. Pics helps us enormously. Sometimes folks think they have Mustard Algae but its just regular nuisance algae. Is the pool in sun all day, or...

What's going on with my pool?

The ONLY thing needed to clear up a green pool is LIQUID CHLORINE!! No algecides will work if you are already green (which it sounds like the pool guy used?) and no potions are good as they come with lots of unwanted side effects you don't want. So until you get a good drop based test set (I...

    New Pool questions about TA

Being as you're in Oklahoma, and a vinyl pool, I wouldn't stress too much about calcium as vinyl doesn't need any.

Is my pump strong enough for my new pool?

It's typical Georgia Pollen from "h-e-hockey sticks" season. Pine trees galore. A good brushing of your waterline will get this stuff into circulation so that it can be picked up in the filter. Filter socks a very handy this time of year. Keeps the schmutz out of the filter itself and you...

Truly torn - SWG or Chlorine

Some Pool Builders push products that they get a kickback for selling, or have leftover in stock. I loved my Pool Builder's personality, but the more I learned the more I can advocate for myself and not be naive about what I'm paying for. Maddie :flower:

    Dirt Residue

Dodie, if you tell me how many gallons your pool is, I can tell you how much LIQUID CHLORINE to add daily until you get a test kit. I use the TF-Pro SALT kit since I have a salt chlorinator which makes my chlorine (handy!). We're happy to help you..ask any questions you have here and you'll get...
