    Ozone Joes??

I think the idea is that the chlorine we put in our pools, thinking the BBB troublefree way, performs two functions. Sanitation & oxidation. Ozone is purely an oxidizer, so it "relieves" the chlorine of the oxidation function. However, the BBB gurus have noted in another thread that you can't...

    Ozone Joes??

I'm no expert. But I've been in & around many pools where the smell of chloramines is unbearable. I have been in pools that were fine before I and several others entered, but several hours later.... fumes. I know. More chlorine is the correct answer. But what's wrong with a safety net? Ozone...

    bonding /grounding question

To expound on that, grounding is about providing an electrical path to ground. Bonding is making sure all the metal objects in a structure (or within a certain proximity) are at the same potential. So, let's say a current carrying wire in your electric pump somehow makes contact to the metal...

    Ozone Joes??

The idea of an ozone system makes perfect sense to me. Even the gurus here, chem geek, JasonLion, & a few others who say they are unnecessary agree that the units do work (they produce ozone) & that ozone is a more powerful oxidizer than chlorine. So to me, it only makes sense that ozone...

    Heater not starting up

I'm just guessing those heaters use a thermistor to light, like most of the new ovens. It doesn't click like your stove top, but instead gets hotter & hotter until it lights the gas. I would bet that thing finally bit the dust & you'll need to call the service guy.

    Pool care instructions found online

What would be better, would be if someone wrote them a letter explaining the trouble people can get into following their half-truths. The only thing we do that is significantly different here, is that we test our waTer & develop our own treatment plan based on what we've learned from the test...

    Cavitation when my heater starts

definitely an option we already discussed. Him supplying the core & me doing the work. Since that is an option, I figured what's the worse I could do? The only thing is if I change out the heat exchanger, I'd be tempted to start the heater up right away. This way, I'm forcing myself to wait a...

What number did you put in the pool calculator (at the bottom) for average depth? With an average depth of 4' it estimates 14,400 gallons. At a 5' average it estimates 18,000 gallons.

Rheem Gas Pool Heater Making Knocking Sound

My Hayward heater has a bypass cartridge. It is a single unit that you replace as one piece. It is easy enough to get out, If I thought the spring needed to be replaced, it wouldn't be hard to do. I don't know how different your rheem is.

Did you actually get to 13ppm? If 13 ppm has gone to 0 since 9 pm last night you don't need to worry about the overnight test. If you can't be around to check it during the day, raise your FC up even higher. Check it before you leave, and add a bunch of bleach before you leave, even if it is...

    Cavitation when my heater starts

At least you'll die happy. The heater manufacturer wasn't going to cover scaling under the warranty. There is nothing they could have done wrong to cause scaling. My pool builder was hee-hawing over paying to replace the heater, or even just the heat exhanger ($1500). We were going to get into...

    Cavitation when my heater starts

8:00 pm test numbers FC: 5.8 Ph: 7.2 TA: 70 CH: 310 I was worried about the Ph being too low so I wanted to check it one more time before going to bed. I'll leave the pump running over night, little more aeration to get the Ph to come up a little more.

    R-0870 The Dipper??

The dipper isn't a very accurate measuring device. Sometimes the powder is actually a small chunk or two. Sometimes a little extra powder gets dropped into the test container. And if I use the dipper to stir the mixture, well there is always a little extra on the dipper. Then the instructions...

    Cavitation when my heater starts

By-the-by, 4:00 pm test numbers are. FC: 2.0 (I added 182 ounces of 6%) CC: 0.2 TA: 70 PH: 7.0 CH: 310 The sample was taken right after I got everything back in service, so I still expect something to happen with the TA & PH if there was some residual acid in the heater. I believe I got it all...

    Cavitation when my heater starts

I put everything back together & brushed the pool. Everything is up and running. I am pretty sure my TA will go down a bit, so will my Ph as there is bound to be some residual muriatic acid in the heater. My plan is to let it circulate for the rest of the week, I'll check my filter again...

    Cavitation when my heater starts

For the most part, I don't see any scaling in the pool. There are a few spots that I believe may be scaling. But I'm still new at this. Those three pictures are of the two spots I have seen. I believe I should be able to get them out with a wire brush.

    Cavitation when my heater starts

With the heater on its end, I poured my muriatic concoction into the heat exchanger. I filled an empty muriatic acid container (gallon jug) with tap water about 3/4s of the way. I filled the rest of the container with muriatic acid (20^ Baume 31.45%). You can see it working. After the...

    Cavitation when my heater starts

Time for an update on the cavitating heater. For an update on my water chemistry, view this thread. Ever since I got my TA down to 110 I have been able to get my Ph down below 8.0 I had continued to dump muriatic acid into my pool, till I eventually got the TA down to 90 and have been able to...
