Believe the SWG or test kit?

As the others have said it is within the margin of error, remember the SWG is really measuring the electro-conductivity of the water which it assumes is solely related to amount of salt in the water and the salt test is chemically measuring the salt level.

    Hurricane Matthew

Flbeachluvr, looking at the wind area map online it looks like the hurricane force 75 mph barely touched land as the storm passed by your area, so most of what you had was likely only tropical storm strength winds. Overall probably a good introduction to minimal hurricane force winds, which are...

20X40 Vinyl IG Pool Quotes in ND

Sounds high, but prices vary considerably from area to area. I know one independent pool store / pool builder in my area was offering a basic minimal no frills 20x40 vinyl liner pool with 3 ft wide concrete decking, sand filter and 1 speed pump a couple of summers ago (I don't recall if it even...

    Draining Pool for Hurricane

You should be safe at draining a foot or so of water, also raise your FC up to SLAM level as you will have a lot of organics blown in. If you have some, you might even put some trichlor pucks in a floater.

    Hurricane Matthew

I would not say to leave the dogs, but you can put the dogs in the car and get out NOW. It may mean having the dogs sleep in the car, it may mean you sleeping in the car, but that is better than being in a house at landfall for a Cat 4 hurricane. The window to leave is closing rapidly, in...

Out of curiosity- for those that have had a deck professionally built

It seems such things are becoming the norm with residential construction crews doing smaller jobs. I just had a 9 ft section of exterior wall torn out and rebuilt which including removing 2 windows, replacing with them with 1 and replacing a door last month. This small project turned into a 3...

    Discharging water 125 ft

Buy 2 used 75 ft 1.5 inch fire hoses off ebay and screw them together, they typically cost $25-$35 and are often unused and are just out of certification date after spending their entire lives in fire cabinets somewhere. Just watch the connector style, you probably and NH/NST you will also...

Total hardness in spa (What is that)

Total hardness is the combination of calcium hardness and magnesium hardness, we really only care about Calcium hardness most of the time. This is part of the problem with using test strips vs a quality drop based test kit (many of the cheaper drop based test kits also only test for total...

Hurricane Matthew pool preparation. (Orlando). What to do before?

My suggestion is to boost the FC to SLAM level and lower the water down a foot or so, bring everything you can inside, furniture, plants, you name it. In a Cat 3+ hurricane anything that is not bolted down is subject to moving. Also go take lots of pre-storm photos for insurance purposes.

    Hurricane Matthew

Ok, on a more serious note, I live about 90 miles inland and have been through several storms that were at Cat 1 levels when they reached us, a couple of Cat 2's and 1 Cat 3 that was marginally Cat 3/4 at landfall. No one is really sure as the National weather station wind speed meter blew...

    Hurricane Matthew

Looking at the current forecast it looks like your a right in the bullseye for landfall / land-grazing with it as a Cat 4 on Friday. If you have never been through a hurricane before, my suggestion is put everything you can inside, bring your pool up to SLAM level. Turn off the electricity and...

Indoor salt water pool, getting it balanced - crazy high salt levels

It depends on the test they are using, for example if they are using a strip system with automatic reader the strips may be getting bleached out by the high chlorine level.

Indoor salt water pool, getting it balanced - crazy high salt levels

If nothing is growing and the swimmer load is low in my indoor pool I loose about 1/2 ppm FC per day when the water is at swim temperature so expect it to take a good while to drop down from your current FC if you don't add hydrogen peroxide or sodium thiosulfate chlorine reducer.

New build proposal in GA, would like some feedback

Advice Please: Pool Store $$$ vs REAL people... lol

I just have a moment, but wanted to say we generally don't regard pool store testing as very accurate, and many of us feel it is a waste of time to provide advice based on pool store testing. This is not to say they are all bad, and a broken clock is also right twice per day.... So our number...

    Ugh....chlorine

Correct now such UV systems do have a place, such as in therapy pools, indoor commercial pools, hot tubs, etc. Basically situations where you have a high bather load per gallon of pool water, and or elevated temperatures and limited natural UV. So if you plan to have 25-30 of your closest...

    Ugh....chlorine

UV systems do work, and are effective at killing things in the water that flow through the cell, also the type of UV in them is much more aggressive than the type we get from sunlight it is the hard UV type that gets filtered out by the ozone layer in nature. The problem is it leaves no...

Indoor salt water pool, getting it balanced - crazy high salt levels

On the topic of CYA what I generally do with my indoor pool is boost CYA up to 30 ppm then wait for it to drift down to 20 ppm and then re-boost it (typically once per year or so as CYA does slowly oxidize)

    Ugh....chlorine

27 mil is good, but is not the whole story when it comes to liners, although it is a sign of being a good product. Other concerns are what type of seam sealing does the company use. Seam splits have traditionally been a common failure point for in ground liner pools. As well as the level of...

    Ugh....chlorine

The biggest thing you can do to make a vinyl liner pool last is to maintain a correct chemical balance through regular testing and chemical adjustments. This is regardless of the source of Chlorine. Also spend the little extra now on a premium grade liner, it will last MUCH longer than a...
