Under construction in McKinney Tx (Complete)

Re: Under construction in McKinney Tx (98% Complete) Do you need more flow?, not sure if you have a variable speed pump or not, but with my sheer descents I can make them shoot way out by increasing the pump rpm.

    Solar Panel plumbing question

The low was 49 deg back in January, but it was about 60 in late feburary when I turned my solar back on, by mid March it was 72 deg but then it was stuck in the low 70's untill April 8 when it reached 74. It finally made it over 80 on approx April 18th and peaked at 84 on April 21st. Last week...

    Solar Panel plumbing question

Yea the auto cover is closed most of the time which helps at night but does keep the sun out during the day, with low wind it would probably be better open during the day but I have no fence so the cover is my safety device. Daytime air temps are around mid 70's so far with night times in the...

    Solar Panel plumbing question

I have a 20 x 40 with 350 sq foot of helicol panels and as of this am the pool is 81 deg, more would be better for april and november, but may thru october they will keep the pool above 80 no problem. The exposure of mine are due south with 8 - 9 hrs of full sun.

Right now it is on from 9 am to 6 pm.

A unique idea? (Dane's pool thermometer)

Since my pool is drawing from both the skimmer and main drain there is no temp difference from top to bottom unless it is less than the 1 degree resolution of my temp sensor. I can draw from either the skimmer or the main drain and the temp is always the same.

Can I use the extension cord?

I apologize for my bad sense of humor in my previous response, my original question was just about the gfci outlet protecting from that scenario. I cleaned it up ... behave ;), Thanks, jblizzle

Can I use the extension cord?

Not trying to say this is the proper way to do it, I was just clarifying that a GFCI is in theory designed to handle this. I do have my cover pump plugged into an extension cord during the winter which I taped the plugs together then put heat shrink tubing over, I don't leave it "in a puddle"...

Can I use the extension cord?

Isnt it plugged into a GFCI outlet? I though that would protect from shocking dangers.

A unique idea? (Dane's pool thermometer)

That looks good, I don't think you can buy a "good" pool thermometer, they are all cheap xxxx. If there was one that was graduated from 50 deg to 100 deg the resolution would be better.

    Solar Panel Questions

Yes, that was my feeling, the wind blew away thy heat. My solar system as a whole works good although I have no comparison. I will usually gain approx 4 / 5 deg over the course of the day, then seem to loose about 4 every night, overall the temp will increase about 1.5 degree's each day with...

    Solar Panel Questions

My heliocol panels are working good, the pool is at 78 now and rising after a few 60'ish, windy days. I dont know how the fafco would have done, but even though it was sunny a cool wind kept them from coming on at all one day. There have been days with a cool ambient temp, no wind, sunny that...

    Help with layout please

It would be king of cool to make the swale look like a river bed with stones and a bridge of some kind. If you're leaving the trees I would definitely stay close to the house away from them.

Above Ground Pool install on wet ground

I was told that drain rock is 98% compacted when it is laid down, that is what they put under all my concrete decking. There is no need to use a compactor, not saying you should do this for your situation.

    Help with layout please

Sounds harsh but I'd loose the trees, they block sun and produce debris which will be a pain, especially with a free form and no auto cover. For my climate I want nothing but full sun at the pool all day, I have some umbrella sleeves if needed. If I lived in a hotter climate I may appreciate the...

New Pool Summer 2012 - Holes in Auto Cover!

I had a similar problem and they gave me a new cover. Mine was caused by the cover rubbing on the bottom of the vault when retracted, at the time the "roll" of cover reaches it's largest diameter. The cover was installed 6-2011 and was replaced 10-2011. I installed some stainless sheets in the...

    peeling handrails

It's not a diy job but there is probably a vendor near you that could do them. From my experience there is usually a $100 min chg +- for small jobs, that may be more than new rails.

Building my own pool in North Jersey

Nice neighbor, amazing the police don't have more important thing to deal with... oh yea this is a lot easier than actually dealing with a criminal. I would ask the contractor to be there to dump the rocks at exactly 7 am, hopefully he could make one trip per day all week.

Building A Fence, Is Galvanized Steel Worth the Premium (Az)

Re: Building A Fence, Is Galvanized Steel Worth the Premium You'll be fine either way, sometimes I do things "overkill" any way. If you wont want it after 5 years then defiantly just go powder. Not sure what color but maybe one that doesn't fade as much, IE lighter color.

Building A Fence, Is Galvanized Steel Worth the Premium (Az)

Re: Building A Fence, Is Galvanized Steel Worth the Premium Usually in a few years I will have forgotten the extra money spent but will be happy I got what I wanted, instead of saving a little then fixing it later. I would go galv.
