    Pentair IntellipH Questions

Thanks for the link. The photo on the linked webpage is the "old" Pentair pump head. The new version is shown in this owners manual on pages 10-11: http://www.pentairpool.com/pdfs/intellpHOM.pdf. I will try to contact Sunplay to see if they have an answer. Thanks again.

    Pentair IntellipH Questions

I installed a Pentair IntellipH system (part # 521377) about 18 months ago. It has been working great and, because of the outstanding advice on this website, I bought a replacement pump head (Pentair part # 521514). This year, while doing my "spring cleaning" of the pool, I noted the original...

WARNING: Don't overtighten a filter canister drain plug

Yep, totally sucks because I had the water just perfect. Anyway, allows me to clean some scale off the tiles while it refills!

WARNING: Don't overtighten a filter canister drain plug

I went to bed with my pool looking like this: Woke up to it looking like this: Yep, I lost over 4 feet of water during the night! My pump was set to run for 2 hours after sunset so this drainage occurred in just 2 hours! I discovered this morning that the drain plug for the filter canister...

Which way is better to add Intellichlor to Easytouch

I also have an EasyTouch panel that does NOT contain a built-in Intellichlor transformer. Depending on the age of your EasyTouch power panel it may not be very easy to add an Intellichlor transformer to it. When I got my PB (Pool Builder) to swap over from an inline chlorinator to an...

Solar cover on or off when SLAM'ing

The high FC during a SLAM process can deteriorate your solar cover. Personally, I'd leave it off while SLAMming.

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

The Pentair manual does not specify what concentration of MA to use. Based on the calibration numbers in the manual, I've assumed it wants full-strength (31.45%) MA (I confirmed that with another local owner of the IntellipH system.) and that's what I am using. The lid on the MA tank seals very...

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

I didn't attach the pump to the canister–it came that way from Pentair! The system is the Pentair IntellipH. The the motor and pump are separated from the acid tank by an fully-enclosed plastic chamber, so the acid and/or its fumes do not contact the motor or pump. Not sure what "enhanced ball...

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

Thanks for the info. However, the check valve is required in my installation. They are easily replaceable and cost about $3 each. I got a package of 5 for $14 on eBay. My plan is to inspect that check valve (called a "duckbill" by Stenner) every time I clean my filters (~3 times per year).

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

Finally got the time (and cooler weather) to install IntellipH. "Before" pics are above in thread. "After" pics below. Just have to dial it in for my pool's acid use. Thanks for all the inputs and tips! :snorkle:

    Role of plants/vegetation/trees near pool?

OK. Read this link http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/134-recommended-levels. It will help you zero in on the numbers you need to maintain. As SunnyOptimism noted, your CYA value is too high. You're looking for a CYA value of 30-50 for a plaster pool. Due to the high CYA, your FC is not...

    Role of plants/vegetation/trees near pool?

With the CYA over 100 in your pool the FC is "bound up" and cannot sanitize properly. I will bet this is the primary reason you're having algae blooms. The only way to reduce the CYA to acceptable levels is to partially drain your pool. BTW, the excess CYA comes primarily from chlorine pucks. I...

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

Haven't forgotten this thread. The Pentair fittings took longer to arrive than I thought. Unfortunately, the daytime temps got ridiculous again here in Tucson-by-the-Sea and I'd much rather be in the pool than working on the pool plumbing! I've put in the IntellipH controller and the tank but am...

Advice - Algae alive or dead?

The robotic vac shouldn't be hurt by the high FC. But be safe and read the warranty restrictions, etc. Also, when you pull out the robot rinse it with fresh (non-SLAM chlorinated) water. Ideally you do not swim during the SLAM process, but in reality it is safe to do so ... the active chlorine...

Advice - Algae alive or dead?

If you follow the advice you are getting as close as humanly possible, your pool could be algae free by Saturday. Even with a 48,000 gallon pool, you won't spend one fourth of what your friends did to clear their $2000 algae bloom! I gather you cannot "vacuum to waste" with your closed system...

Advice - Algae alive or dead?

I am not an expert but from what I've seen it would be very rare to complete a SLAM in 48 hours–especially if you really have mustard algae! I suggest reading these two articles before you go any further: http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/126-defeating-algae ...

    Slam ?

No. A little higher is fine. You are right–it takes a serious amount of bleach. Objective is to keep the FC as close to the SLAM level throughout the entire SLAM process. The process can take several days so be patient and consistent in your testing/bleach additions. Some folks even set an...

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

Ordered the Pentair fittings today and they should arrive Weds or Thurs. I'll re-do the plumbing late next week and will post a pic when complete. Totally agree the PB should've left a bit of "wiggle room" in all the plumbing. Unfortunately, I wasn't looking over their shoulders during that...

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

Your dad was a wise man–just like mine! :hammer: I did a bit more mental engineering. I believe I can rework the PVC to add a section of pipe on the filter outlet that will allow both the 12" run and fit the IntelliPH injector prior to the IC40. I'll cut the pipe at the filter outlet then put...

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

I don't have a heater so the IntelliPH should go right after the filter but before the IC40. However, there is no room for the saddle clamp. Here's a few pics of my plumbing: The blue oval indicates the most likely area for the injector. However, that length of pipe is only 2" long (shown...

Questions About Installing a Pentair IntelliPH

My IC40 was not installed with 12"-18" of straight pipe before the cell :(. I had the PB replace a Pool Frog system with the IC40 and his crew had to work around the existing plumbing. They installed the IC40 in a vertical configuration to adapt to the existing PVC and it leaves me with no room...
