Need Help Selecting a Pool Builder - Atlanta, GA

So the progress has been slow for the project due to a number of issues but we finally have all the trees removed and the elevation survey was delivered yesterday which will determine where grading may need to be elevated due to us being in a Zone X flood zone. We are hoping to narrow down the...

Possible to Build Pool in Flood Zone X (shaded)?

Update: We heard back from a number of people with the county. Here is what we learned. The pool decking must "at least a foot above the 100 year flood elevation" which should be doable given where we want to place the pool. We will need the land surveyors to come back and stake the...

Possible to Build Pool in Flood Zone X (shaded)?

I got in touch with someone yesterday with the county planning and zoning department. He pulled up our plat and said Zone X was not high enough risk to prohibit a pool build. I asked why two builders had walked away and he said “they either don’t know better or they don’t want to put the work...

Possible to Build Pool in Flood Zone X (shaded)?

Funny you mention a shed. The previous owners had a large shed in our backyard at the back right corner near the creek. We got rid of the shed to make room for the pool project (equipment access, tree removal, etc.). After the survey was completed, we realized that not only was the shed...

Possible to Build Pool in Flood Zone X (shaded)?

My rough sketch of the pool location does show some overlap with the BSL but we can make the pool work without crossing the BSL. There is no HOA to deal with. I suppose it will all come down to whether the county will allow it. Hopefully we can get some answers from them this week.

Thank you for the feedback! We are sending your list of recommended equipment to a few of the builders to see what the quotes look like. I think we are going to skip the spa for a number of reasons so we are also asking them to provide quotes for the pool without the spa.

Tree Removal Prior to Pool Build

Here is another somewhat related question. One of my biggest concerns, even without the tree removal, is soil stability. When we had our screen porch built back in 2017 the contractor discovered unstable soil when he dug the holes for the footers. They dug down 2 feet and could tell the soil...

Tree Removal Prior to Pool Build

The survey was completed about a week ago after waiting weeks for us to get on their schedule. Survey confirmed all trees are on our side despite the neighbor's efforts to convince us otherwise. We have the removal scheduled for the week of Labor Day and it's around 13 trees total. I'm still...

Need Help Selecting a Pool Builder - Atlanta, GA

Hello, We have been talking to several pool builders here in the Atlanta area. We have had 6 come out to look at our yard and put together a quote based on our wish list (as it's changed along the way/through this process). Attached is a comparison of each quote (company names not included)...

Tree Removal Prior to Pool Build

Thanks everyone for all the informative replies. Sounds like the proper things to do is leave enough of the trunk to allow the stumps to be pulled which makes sense to me. I'm hoping to have the trees cut down very soon. We are currently waiting for a new survey to be done since our neighbor...

Tree Removal Prior to Pool Build

Thanks for the reply. My wife has been doing some research and some people claim that leaving 2-3 feet of stumps will allow a builder to dig up the stumps. However, one builder I spoke to today claimed that grinding the stumps would be good enough. As for materials, we are leaning towards a...

Tree Removal Prior to Pool Build

Hello, We are currently getting quotes and designs from a number of pool builders here in the Atlanta area. Our backyard will require extensive tree removal in order to accommodate a pool. This includes two huge pines and two large sweet gums. One of our concerns is the tree roots breaking...
