    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

... and as promised, one densely-populated little square of mahogany. Yeah, it's goofy. This wasn't planned, but grew organically when the need to add SWCG and a line filter (VFD on GFCI). It will be redone in the off season, with a new load center, and probably a roof over the whole thing.

    Pool Closing-Where to Buy

I'm an idiot. You guys are interested in blower outlet pressure, not vacuum pull. Even easier, as I know I have at least a few 15 psi full-scale pressure gauges in the shop. Will measure it this weekend.

    Pool Closing-Where to Buy

Okay. Let me check the stash and see if I have any gauges that can handle full vacuum, and if so, I'll rig up a test. I can also do with various numbers of hose extensions, as there's some leak at each junction. I honestly don't know what to expect, it will be interesting to find out, but it...

    Pool Closing-Where to Buy

If you have a large shop vac, there's some probability it has even higher CFM and static pressure than the cyclone. Horsepower ratings are wonky on universal motors, most use stall current, but it's not universal However, any blower or shop vac pulling more than 12 amps at 120 volts is going...

    Bug in effects of adding

Hmm... I'm up to date. If I try to enter "2.5" into "FC Generated", I get 25. Like I said, not a show-stopper, just figured someone would want to know, for next time they're making tweaks.

Version 509 (5009007) on iPhone 15 Pro. Checking App store now... maybe I'm out of date.

    Bug in effects of adding

While exploring Effects of Adding with SWG, I found that the decimal point does not work in the FC generated. You can work around by just checking values above and below (eg. 2 ppm and 3 ppm if your daily loss averages 2.5 ppm), but it sure would be nice if we could just plug in the closest...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Interesting. I suspect you're about right. I lose about 3 ppm per day uncovered, and would suspect that 1 ppm per day covered is probably close, at present levels. But from where did you get the 2 hours at 100% = 1 ppm? If you hadn't noticed, I like math. (y) Yep, that's exactly how I've...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

So, I may have discovered the down side of going big. Just over one day on the RJ-45+, set down at 35% and even turning it off for awhile yesterday afternoon, my FC has jumped from 5.5 ppm up to 10.0 ppm. Not a huge problem, I still have range to dial down farther, but it means my control...

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

Agreed. My kids have just gotten used to whatever salt I have in there now, whether that be 2900 or 3200 ppm. I may give it another few days of use, so I'm sure it's completely out-of-mind, and then sneak another 40 lb. in there.

    Dichlor to raise CYA?

Thanks. Ordered! Since it's a lot easier to raise CYA than to lower it, I'll hold off making any adjustment until after I receive this standard and confirm my test results.

    Dichlor to raise CYA?

Okay, will check it out next time I have a chance. Hadn't seen that before. On the subject of dialing in CYA, I had thought TF test kits or someone sold a CYA reference liquid, but now I'm having trouble finding it. The "disappearing dot" test is so subjective, I'd like a reference to see if...

    Dichlor to raise CYA?

Doh! I had actually checked under CYA, to see if dichlor was listed, but hadn't thought to check under the Free Clorine tab. Do you think the 9/10 ratio of CYA rise to FC rise using dichlor sounds about right? If so, I'll just shut off my SWG for a day to give some head room for chlorinating...

    Dichlor to raise CYA?

Been working to get some pretty out-of-whack chemistry onto the TFP / Pool Math targets, and I'm pretty close now. With conversion to SWG, new target for CYA is 60 - 90, and I'm somewhere right around the minimum there. I say "somewhere around", because I have low confidence in the accuracy of...

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

That was after several seconds, and it appeared stable, but next time I'll let it go much longer and see what happens. One time, I left the red brick mix sit and stir while I went ahead and did my chlorine addition. When I finally got around to emptying and washing the tube, I had a heck of a...

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

Cool. Good to understand. Unless there's some advantage to be had by being right on the 3500 ppm nominal (lower electricity usage?), I'm inclined to just let it run as-is, as proavia suggested. The controller isn't complaining about low salinity, even though it's reading under 3000 ppm min spec.

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

Okay guys, had a quick chance to re-test and photograph this morning. The photos start at 14 drops and conclude at 17 drops. Severity of color change at 15 drops varies, as "drops" is not exactly a precision measurement, yesterday it was noticeably lighter than this. But full "red brick"...

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

Yes, using SpeedStir. Total game changer! Thanks guys. I'll redo the Taylor test today with photos, just so we can all agree. Hey, weird question... does salinity drop when SWG is running? We're splitting NaCl, so in theory NaCl will be lower with SWG running, versus not. But with only 8...

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

I've learned from this forum that the Taylor test kit instructions can be lacking in specificity. Read the instructions for the TA test. You'll see it says nothing about going until color change stops. Either way, result is same for salt, as color change from yellow to red is happening at 16...

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

Hmm... this is how I was measuring Total Alkalinity, but was told these drop tests always work by when it stops changing color, then subtract the last drop.

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

Thanks, HermanTX! I assume that when measuring anything by Taylor drop test, it's the "go until it stops changing color, then subtract 1" method, right? I get first bit of red brick shade at 15 drops (3000 ppm), full change to red at 16 drops (3200), then no change at 17 drops. I believe I...

    Salinity: CircuPool & Taylor discrepancy

Salinity has been measuring 3200 ppm by Taylor drop test, which is on the low end of the recommended 3k - 4k range, but fine. However, the controller on our freshly-installed CircuPool RJ-45+ is listing the salinity at 2900 ppm, out of range. The system is running, not faulting, but I guess I...

    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

Dang... got CircuPool controller hung on the panel, and the line filter, and the utility receptacles, and the new receptacle for the SWCG... and the original load center. That is one densely-populated little square of mahogany. :D I have to install one more thing, and then I'll get a photo...

    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

Well, we experienced our first false trip this morning, with the EMI filter installed on the line. I was thinking about this yesterday, and realized that they offer these filters with many different L/C values, and that I could probably pick one much more suitable than the first one I grabbed...
