Completed ascorbic acid treatment about 10 days ago and added metal out. It worked to perfection in the pool with super clear. It stayed that way until yesterday. I will post my numbers below but what I’m wondering is could this be cause because I didn’t do the maintenance dose yet and I let the pH drift up to 7.4.

If you can’t replace the metal laden water with fresh water, then you have to be really careful to keep the pH and TA low. You need to keep the TA closer to 50-60ppm and the pH below 7.4 as well as add the maintenance doses of sequestering agent. Unfortunately that means you’ll be using more acid than normal to keep the pH/TA in check and the money will start to rack up with all the sequestering agent you’ll use. So only you can determine if the extra cost is worth it with respects to what it would cost to get fresh water into the pool.

Diverting rain water into the pool can help as long as the collection process is clean (roof water tends to be pretty dirty). Any time you lower the pool water level an inch or two and let rain fill it back up will only help to minimize metal contamination.

After iron treatment pool was crystal clear. I’ve been adding my doses of metal out. Today I saw an iron stain in bottom of the pool. The question is do I have to do the full asorbic acid treatment can I add metal out and if so how much? The reason I was asking these questions is article about AA treatment said if you see small stains coming back out you should add some more equestrian agent?

If the areas are small enough you can spot treat the stains and then add in a full dose of sequestering agent. The maintenance dose may not be enough especially if the chlorine gets too high.

There are a few products that call themselves “Metal Out”. Can you please share a picture of them one you are using?

Sorry to bother you again. The first time I did this, I got the pool crystal clear no cloud in this whatsoever. PH low, kept the chlorine levels on the low side for about 10 days. On about the 10th day, the pool became cloudy. Not super cloudy but just all if you know what I mean. It has never really recovered from that. My numbers are spot on. So my next question is whether I have to do this treatment again is there anything that I can do later to get rid of the cloudiness? I’ve heard some people say flock it. I’ve heard some people say just add clarifier. Sorry for the long post and thanks for helping.

Have you done an overnight chlorine loss test? Off/cloudy water can be the sign of a nascent algae bloom. I suggest you do that. AA treatments can cause algae blooms. It can be a vicious cycle where you get algae, SLAM, the SLAM causes stains, remove the stains, algae again, rinse & repeat. If you’re too close to the swim season, you may have to live with the stains to avoid algae.
