Opened the pool for the summer and first thing I tested was the CYA for SLAM.

As this test is my least favorite, I did it multiple times and it trended towards barely being able to see it past the 30 mark in the tube. (The solution was just at the top of the tube)

I added 1 gallon of LC to get started, brushed the pool and called it a day. What is the recommendation for the CYA so I can get started for SLAM. (I know i have to be at a minimum of 30)

To mix it for 24 hours before you trust it. It takes the same time to re-disperse as it does to disperse the first time. :)

Then if its under 30, make a judgements call if you should add 10 / 15 / 20 because you likely have some, its just a question of how much.

Welcome back.

Thanks.

So going forward when I open next year, let it circulate for 24 hrs then test for CYA?

How much LC should I add in the mean time while I scrub etc?

On a side note, I tested last night and it was 12.5, with .5 CC, this morning it was 13.5 with .5 CC.

So far so good.

Yes. For salt, CYA and CH

TA / PH and FC are mixed well in 15 to 30 mins depending on circulation and you can dose accordingly after.

I like 10 FC. If you retained any CYA (likely with closing @ SWG levels), 10 FC is a little over target range and once you start mixing/brushing you can lose a couple FC to the crud or the sun and still be good.

If you lost all your CYA, 10 FC is slam level so no harm done.

3 years in and still learning, thank you!
