Just joined, so please get me in line if I'm out. I'm facing the decision of going with an aftermarket SWG. I can't find any mention of this (APX PERFORMANCE P40 Aftermarket Replacement Cell)
manufacturer on TFP, but this unit seems to top all of my google searches for SWGs.
I'd much appreciate hearing from anyone with experience with aftermarkets, specifically the APX.

Hey Rman and Welcome !!!

Search for apex p40 or apex p60.

How big is the pool ?

@jeffchap @capp35 and @jtech1 have them and haven't reported issues. Maybe one of them will stop by for an update with the spring upon us.

Hey, great to hear back so quick, and with what I'm going to take as good news! Thanks!
My pool is only 24K and I've worn out 2-3 Pentair IC-40's on it over the last 7+ years. So I'm thinking, with this APX replacement, I'd boost it up to a APX PERFORMANCE P60 and hope the extra horsepower will help it survive our mineral-heavy water and screeching heat here in Tucson. The amazing thing is, even with this more expensive APX unit, the cost coming in from my local pool service for a Pentair IC-40 is about 3x as much.
Can I ask if you guys think it's better to purchase directly from APX or a supplier like Discount Salt Pool? As a newbie, I'm going to need some support from the seller ......

DSP is as good as you'll find. Maybe the manufacterer is too, but they won't be any better. With DSP not really having any dog in the fight, they are quick to make their suppliers honor the warranty. Occasional it doesn't work out for somebody, but overwhelmingly it does.

exactly why i asked. (y) cells are rater for 24/7 production. We recommend 2X cells because they make the same FC in 12 hours and get double the lifespan. They cost a fraction of the gained lifespan to upgrade as the bulk of the cost is just getting in the game.

I'd go 3x in NY for even better ROI, and in a hot climate (loooooong season/ high UV) I'd strongly consider 4X. The Apex p60 will last 50% longer than the Apex p40 so compare that against the costs. Unfortunately the residential units top out at 60k so us big pool people are capped.

I'm hoping they'll give me a little more support to get up and running than corporate
What kind of support do you need ? We've helped a third of a bazillion people DIY theirs. You might tip the scales to break into half a bazillion.

New here. What do you mean by 2X, 3X, 4X? I live in SC and need to replace my iChlor30. After reading this thread, I think I too will go with an apex p60. I have a 20K gunite.

The units are rated for 24/7 production. A 20k unit needs 24 hours to produce about 4 FC. Funny how the industry knows peak season loss per day for SWGs but not liquid chlorine or pucks. Anywho, cells have a finite lifespan like a gas tank and a 2X cell (40k for you) only needs to run 12 hours to make 4 FC per day, effectively doubling it's lifespan. Etc etc.

That would be a cell rated for 3x your pool volume and could produce your max peak season FC lost in 8 hours, tripling it's lifespan over the 20k cell running 24/7.

How hard are you running your cell and what does your water chemistry look like (CSI specifically)? Do you have one of the recommended test kits on hand? I don’t expect anyone will argue against a bigger cell, but for max life you also want to make sure your water isn’t unintentionally degrading the electrode.
