So I’m just wondering if anybody knows how to do the CYA reading without having the little bottle with the red cap? I had to re-order one cause I lost it and I’m just wondering if there is someone who knows what the measurements would be and how to do that without the bottle?

Got a syringe? Use that to measure equal amounts. Depending on if you have TF or Taylor it would be 7ml or 15mL. Just needs to be equal amounts and enough to fill the measure tube. Any, old, clean, pill bottle can be used for mixing.

Heck, if you have a normal test vial, use that. If you have a speedstir, you are GOLDEN!!!

I keep a number of different syringe sizes for lots of reasons (bought without needles). Maybe that's just my house...I have a few hobbies that I use them for regularly, rockets, RC airplanes, Lawncare.

Well, I’m a nurse so I usually have syringes and Novacaine and various burn dressings since my husband is a chef so I’m just surprised I don’t have one! But thanks for your knowledge!

All you need is the same volume of pool water and reagent. Draw a line on a pill bottle. Fill with water to the line. Pour into another pill bottle. Fill to the line again with water, pour into another pill bottle. Then pour that into your view tube to see if that gives you enough. If so, go with it with pool water and reagent.

Not enough? Draw the line a bit higher.
Too Much? Draw the line a bit lower.

This isn't rocket science...you just need a 50/50 mix and enough to get to the right line.

A medicine dropper (what I use) probably works a little better than a hypodermic needle. 😝 CVS, Walgreens, etc.

And have a look through those kitchen draws, small measuring cups and etc. I probably wouldn’t use a table spoon but it dosent need supper acuracy. Those shot glasses or little cups with measurements for cough mixture etc. would be ideal.

With not many CYA tests in the kit because its so stable, I'd be looking to conserve reagent. I'd use the CYA tube and fill it to the line closest to the middle with pool water, dump that in a vial, do it again with R0013, dump that in the vial, mix and pour back into the tube to test.

*edit just looked one up. While 50 isn't the middle of the scale height, it's darn near middle of the tube.
