Good morning, TFP! I woke up this morning to finally passing the OCLT (and other 2 criteria) after a successful 11 day SLAM since opening on 4/30. Since we only have a small 6,800 gallon pool and still took this long, I'm sure other folks with larger pools are doubting themselves and the process. Keep strong and follow the process, friends!

Just wanted to say how grateful I am for finding this forum in 2021. Opening fresh reagents in the spring from TFtestkits is like Christmas morning! Knowing that I can confidently and easily take care of my pool with small daily effort through the summer is a wonderful feeling. Happy swimming, friends.

Hopefully in the fall I can get better at my closing process. I long for the day when I open to a clear pool in the spring, though my mesh cover and difficult Arkansas weather might prove difficult?

Also, exhibit A and B (old/new house) that the mesh cover isn't to blame. I assure you I'm lazy as it gets and not slaving over it. I probably spent an hour over the winter, not counting walking away for an hour or two while it drained the excess rain water.

That's encouraging! Do you use Polyquat 60 when closing? Part of my problem is probably me needing to close the pool in early to mid-October. We deer hunt for large parts of late October and November which means I try to close it out and not worry about it at that time. I'm not sure when exactly the pool hits 60 degrees, because I've never waited for that which I know is the ideal scenario.

No I just wait until it's cool enough, or soft close if I need to close before that. Then I can add one last dose of FC when the time comes and only have to clear the plumbing. The cover is most of the work and having that out if the way is huge to lighten the process.
early to mid-October
That's probably late enough most years, but we'll figure it out when we know what this fall looks like.

I’m a little further south than you & I usually fully close around Halloween.
I have a solid cover & raise to slam level. No polyquat.
I do the soft close thing too because the sky starts falling 🍂 before the water temp is right so I deploy the cover but keep things running until I am ready to raise to slam fc & button it completely up.
