The article at
says:

“While the pool cover is still on, users should take a few minutes and give their filters a good cleaning.”

how does one clean the filter if the cover is still on, meaning the returns are plugged? Seems removing the cover and opening the returns, etc, needs to happen before cleaning/backwashing the filter.

Thanks for the help.

To deep clean a sand filter, you don't backwash it, you open it and carefully flush it out with a garden hose.

Somebody just mentioned cleaning their cartridges in the spring before.

I'm a put it away clean kinda dude, regardless of filter type. Regardless of topic for that matter. :ROFLMAO:

So I should refer to the deep cleaning guide for instructions on cleaning the filter before removing the cover, yes?
It was just a suggestion. It can be done before, during or after. (Providing the equipment is above water level or you have plugs/valves to stop the gravity flow)

Ok. So after removing the collar at the bottom of the multiport, the multiport doesn’t seem to want to come up from the main body of the filter. I have a Pentair Tagelus filter.

Any advice, anyone?

Thanks.

Do you have unions to remove the plumbing? Without unions the MPV stays attached to everything else because of the PVC.

Here is somebody's that added unions so the MPV could be removed to get into the filter. (Ignore the writing)

Yes. The unions are removed.

Thank you so much. I don’t know why I didn’t see that when I searched for the name of the filter.

Due to time constraints I think I’m going to defer cleaning the sand until next spring. But I really appreciate the link.
