Water behind liner

Hi Guys,

Yesterday, when I went to use the pool, I noticed that on my shallow end, I had a spongy section that looked like a wrinkle. Stepping on it would move it back into place. I guess water somehow managed to get behind the liner. Not sure how this happened since my drywell is empty, and I have an automatic pump inside to make sure water is removed during the rain. We have had a crazy amount of rain in the last two weeks. Overnight, the bulge has gotten much smaller and seems like it's going back into the same place and might not cause a wrinkle. I have a couple of questions.

Should I try to remove the water, or wait until it disappears on its own? Anything I can do to prevent this? My drywell was put in the over-dig and sits at about 3.5 or 4 feet deep, but my deep end is 5.5 feet. Should my drywell have been made deeper? My shallow end was also done at 4 feet deep instead of the normal 3.5.

It'll take care of itself and there's not much you want to do other then find out how the water gets there
I think the source of the problem has been all the rainfall we have had in the last two weeks. My shallow end is a little lower than the drywell, and maybe that is the issue. This is the third year with the pool, and it's the first time we've had issues, but we've never had water like this before. It's rained almost daily last week, and in large amounts. Do you recommend that I work it down, or just let it do its thing?

Pool can be used and I'd keep and I'd keep a distance from that spot. You really need to figure it out because it'll erode the soil on that side having water there every time it rains. Check where your downspouts are or aren't to see if that's thr source of the problem. I'd recommend to walk out and about the pool when it rains to see if can can spot it coming to the pool area.

This is the 3 year with the pool and we have never had any issues. However, this year we have had a ton of rain and flooding has happened all over the place.
I'm thinking the issue might be the Gazebo, since it does not have any gutters and this would cause a lot of water to fall on the side of the wrinkles. You see any issues from the picture? The rest of the pool is perfect, and my sum pit is on the other side. I was going to add some gutters to the Gazebo and run the water to the other side.

Hi! I am also near Toronto and I’m having the exact same issue. My backyard actually looks very similar to yours with a little pool house at the end like yours. I’ve also wondered if the runoff from the little house is causing excess water, I’ve run this idea past my pool builder and they don’t seem to think that’s the issue. We also have a sump well which is dry and it’s in the same position and depth as yours. We’ve even had a leak detection come out and we do not have a leak. At this point it seems to be just the excessive rain we have had. But I agree with you, it is driving me crazy and I am so afraid someone is going to puncture the liner when there is water underneath. In fact my robot caused a hole by getting stuck on a wrinkle. My pool builder is at a loss, and we have had every trade and contractor involved trying to figure this out. At this point, everyone is thinking it’s all the rain we have had. We have exhausted every other reason. I’d love to know if you’ve figured out the cause.

“My pool builder thinks it’s the exact same issue. He believes that all the rain we had this year, which has been an unusually large amount, caused the problem. We also tested for leaks, and there was nothing found. I think I will still install the gutters. I have no other wrinkles except that one, and the wrinkle showed up after we had one week where it rained every day and then a full Saturday.

I’m just wondering, are you planning to have them try to remove the wrinkle, or are you planning to just live with it? I have been using my robot, and there have been no issues so far.”

I forgot to add that my pool builder said other customers in my area had similar issues after that two week period of rain.

I don't have any wrinkles on the floor yet, although I can still feel some soft spots on the ground. All the water that has gotten behind my liner seems to accumulate in my vinyl covered steps since that's the spot with the least water pressure. We have wrinkles and the top step liner floats since it's the one with the least amount of water on it. They have not pumped the water out, and say it will re-absorb with time, but with kids playing on the steps, I'm worried they will puncture it. We have had water behind the liner pretty much the whole season this year.
