Another dead Intellivalve

My pool/spa return Intellivalve stopped working this weekend, the tell tale blinking red / solid service light. Resetting doesn't work. I took it off, can hear water sloshing inside of it, and then rusty water started leaking out. These things have serious quality issues. Tempted to ask my builder to replace with the old black with handle style as these just seem to suck consistently.

I have one other Intellivalve that still works, and one older style. Mine are all top mounted facing up.

Get them while you can. I don’t believe Pentair will be selling or supporting the old CVA units anymore. I have two spares that I keep on hand so I can replace and rebuild them as needed. Pentair’s plan is to only support their IntelliValves in the future … even if they are built like garbage. The entire industry seems to be moving to the “iPhone” model of equipment - ignore longevity, cover it with a minimal warranty, and then expect the customer to buy new once it fails outside of the warranty period.

If you are still under warranty, pentair will happily swap to the old valve actuator.

On that note, if it's warranty replaced and they are going to toss it, I would be willing throw a couple bucks your way for the dead valve.

Still under warranty, less than a year old. Just got word from my builder they are going to replace all the valves pre-emptively. Not sure with what, hope the old style at this point.
If they put the intellivalves back in, run a small bead of silicone caulk on the joint between the halves. The ones I have disassembled have all failed because the glue/sealant is not run all the way around the channel its meant to be in.

Interesting. The old style CVA units have an o-ring seal around the body and one at the bottom of the shaft so that water can’t splash up into it. Sounds like they didn’t think the design of these newer units through.

Yup, interesting thing is it looks like that is precisely what was intended (there is a nice channel all the way around) but whomever designed it made it so the screws wouldn't hold it together. In lieu they use an epoxy like sealant ....but don't go all the way around 🤦🏾‍♂️

They replaced one with older style, and will do the other soon as they get one. You’d think they would have designed some weep holes on these things, or actually made then water tight. Bad design and manufacturing.
I’ve had two fail in a year. Next fail I will replace with Jandy even if they are under warranty. Cheaper than burning out my pump.
