I am going to be working with the pool company to plumb in my solar layout on a new pool. I will be having the Pentair SolarTouch 3 way valve and SWG as well. After speaking with the solar company they recommended putting the Hayward Aqua Rite 900 SWG before the solar valve. When the panels drain you initially have air coming through the SWG which can cause malfunction they notes. Attached is my initial layout and would love any feedback. I have all the check valves, valves and unions so I can disconnect various ways if needed.

Any issues with vertical vs horizontal placement?

I also called Hayward/ SWG company and they said you could do both, just know the water will be highly chlorinated through your panels and you might need to dial up your level due to distance travel.

Thanks again!

Mine is after the panels. In fact last in line before the returns and no issues. Air from the panels may shut off the swg for a few seconds but it comes back on when water starts flowing again. Not a big deal.

Also, most Hayward controllers with later firmware have a solar delay for the SWG when solar is engaged so again, non issue.

BTW, if you have separate heater NG/HP you want the SWG after that.

Awesome. This is great! Would you happen to know where I can find out more about the firmware and solar delay? This would be great to know. The Hayward Aquarite 900 (40k gal) is still in the box so would assume it's pretty new, but would love to have or get that function.

I missed the part where you have a Pentair controller for the solar and AquaRite for the SWG. Mix and match is not always the best option.

The AquaRite does not control the solar valve so it would be the Pentair solar touch which would have to signal the Hayward unit. The AquaRite does have a communications link for Pentair controllers but I don't know that will support solar SWG delay. You may need to contact Pentair & Hayward to find out for sure.

Sounds good. I might be able to just wire an interval timer between the two so there is a few minute shut off when the solar valve kicks on.
