How cold of water will you swim in?

This is my first off season with the pool, but living here on the gulf coast, we usually swim till mid to late October and thats with water temps in the upper 70's to 80. I don't think I'd wanna get in this pool if it was lower than 76-78. I guess alot would depend on how breezy and warm the air temp was that day. After a few beers I might jump in it if it was cooler than that.

We won't let the kids swim unless it's at least 80 degrees, and I don't like to get in unless it's at least 84+. To me, 88 is about ideal though.

Me too!

Us Texans have to stick together! With no cover and no heater, our pool dropped to 78 degrees last week and I thought we were done  but then higher daytime temps and not-as-cool nights brought it back up to 84 degrees yesterday so in I went! A bit chilly to start but finally felt fine. 88 truly is ideal and 84 is about the "coldest" I'll swim in. Swam in 78 degrees last fall but one time was enough. I'm spoiled!

Mid 80s

My wife and I have decided that 86 is the perfect water temp for us. Here is Southeastern PA, our night air temps have dropped into the 50s and it's taking it's toll on our water temp. I've been using the heater on the weekends to bring it up to 83 or so.

I think the lowest temp I would go for here is around 78. My wife and I visited her brother near Easton, PA and his water was 72! We had to go in anyway to make him feel good! Now, that sucked!

Last year I went in our pool on the day after Thanksgiving. I had placed some air pillow under the cover in an attempt to keep the water from pooling on it and wanted to move them. Very cold and the cover was in place. I had my wife stand by in case I had a heart attack.

I'm in Southern Ontario, and just went for a dip on the weekend.
Water temperature was 68, but we had a heatwave and the air temperature was over 100 (including humidity factor)

I find that when the air temperature is warmer than the pool, the water feels very cold.
But when the air temperature drops, the same temperature pool feels much more comfortable.

Living here in Corpus I can understand the cold water stuff y'all are talking about. I fight to keep my pool below 90 most of the summer and right now its running at about 86, about ideal. Of course we are expecting to have a cold wave come in this week and lows will be getting down to the mid 60's, burrrrrrr. I'll have to fire up the solar heater and maybe even put on the solar cover to keep it in the 80's till oh maybe Thanksgiving. Then we might not be able to swim in 80 degree water till February or so. :-D :-D :-D

The cool Autumn weather is finally arriving here in South Jersey this week.

We had low 80s last weekend and I heated the pool to 80 for the kids.

They didn't stay in long because it was quite windy that day.

Last night I got in to remove the stairs - water tempo was around 76 - wasn't bad at all.

Air temp was around 80 - no wind.

But they're calling for 60s - so Autumn must finally be here.

Hate to shut it down - but the heater has limits to its efficiency.

I thought I’d resurrect this thread since we’re cooling down now. I was in our pool last night at 67F. It we have a sauna cabin right by the pool so it becomes a plunge pool until next spring.
i think the lowest temp I jumped in last winter was 42F. if you’re going in then you still have to swim to the shallow end to get out so it becomes a little bit of an endurance test. Let’s see if we can get into the 30s this year!
