I have a crack/leak in the bottom of the fiberglass DE filter exterior. I'm looking at getting a replacement but have a few questions:

1. Should I stop running the pool equipment while there is a crack? The leak isn't enough to be filling my yard with water and I'd like to still circulate the water (run the SWCG, etc).
2. If I get a new filter are the input/output holes going to line up or do I need to re-plumb the PVC?
3. I think this filter is a "48 sqft filter Hayward Micro-clear" based on pictures but there are no longer any labels on the filter so I'm not 100% sure. Attached are some pictures, can anyone verify what filter this is?

Thank you TFP!

I'm afraid that's not good. :( A filter with an obvious leak like that could rupture at any moment presenting a serious safety issue. Unfortunate you don't have a multiport valve to recirculate (by-pass) the filter. I would be very worried about it being in service. A swap "might" line-up with the with current fitting, just depends. If it's going to be a while before you can replace it, Maybe you can rig-up your own PVC by-pass just to circulate water? Or just leave the main pump off as much as possible and maybe use a separate pump to drop in there and move water around once in a while?

I would also consider keeping the FC level on the high end in case you shut the system down to try and avoid an algae bloom.

The pad looks horrible.
Yep the entire system should be re-done, I had grand plans for it but I'm also planning on selling the house so that'll be someone else's grand plans soon.

Yeah, I thought about the same thing when I noticed the crack. I'll probably just turn off the pump for now. The FC is already on the high side so I'm good there. I also have a pump for the fountain so I can use that to at least circulate the water (although it isn't plumed to the SWCG).

Any ideas on what filter this is?

While taking the filter apart I found "De-2400-z-10" on one of the labels. I assume that means it's a 24 sqft DE filter, which is odd since that seems small for a 21k gallon pool.

For most of the popular brings like Hayward or Pentair, the measurement you will most need D.E. grid length. The standard lengths are, 12", 18", 24", 30" and 36".

The filter size in sqft is two times the filter length.

For example, a grid 24" long is a 48 sqft filter.

I verified the that the DE filter I have is a Hayward Micro-clear 48 sqft. From what I've read all of the micro-clear's have the same bottom, which is why it was labeled 2400.

Since I'm selling the home soon I didn't want to spend money/time on a brand new unit. I was able to find a replacement shell for the DE filter and I got it installed yesterday. No more leaks and everything is running smoothly.

Thanks for everyones help!
