Pool not holding chlorine

Monday, two days ago, your overnight loss was 3ppm. Last night it was 2ppm. You killed a third of what's been consuming your chlorine. Well, the math doesn't work like that, exactly, but you get the point. It's a significant improvement.

I see you have a ladder. Have you pulled the ladder and cleaned the inside? Mine pool did the same for days until I realized there was algae INSIDE the ladder. Also, do you have a light?

Looks like it's going in the right direction. And sometimes there is a hiccup, so don't get discouraged if it goes two steps forward one step back tomorrow. Progress is progress.

Maybe the next OCLT looks even better. (y)

CCs are the waste product of chlorine oxidation. As your free chlorine get used oxidizing organics in the pool CCs form. Having .5 CCs is normal, as CCs are created and consumed as part of the sanitation process. When CCs get higher than 1.0 that indicates the free chlorine is oxidizing a lot of organics (usually algae).

Promise me you'll be extra thorough in the AM with the testing. The bottle goes dead upside down with no sideways lean. Only the gentlest of squeezes to produce gravity made drops that are perfect and repeatable. Even then, can anybody, anywhere, do anything perfect 48 times in a row ? (For your 24 FC).

Do you have a stirring device or are you hand swirling ? It helps the consistsnce SO much to have one.

I’m hand swirling. I keep the bottle straight up and down. Really trying to follow all directions. I did finally figure out how to get the stairs off and the little rubber stoppers on the end were gross. Dumped the water out, poured bleach down the pipes and am soaking the stoppers in bleach. I am leaving them off for now and will reinstall in a day or two. Fingers crossed this resolves it!

It may!

Did you check the inside of the skimmer throat? Back of the weir door? Do you have any lights or drains in the pool?

Put a smart stir on your shipping list. It's $44 and you won't know how you got by without it.

I'd bet, dollars to donuts, you will pass OCLT tonight or tomorrow, if you leave your ladder out.

If I lose that bet, I'd bet, dollars to donuts, if you have a light, remove it and scrub it, you will pass OCLT the night or 2nd night after removing and cleaning.

But, what do I know...I had the same experience. Data point of one...will get you into Harvard.

Donuts? I'd like some donuts. Huh, whadimiss?

+1 on the SpeedStir. It sounds like a lot of money for a little gizmo, but you'll thank us the first time you use it.

Great job on the ladder. Follow the other advice about the other possible algae-hideout locations we're describing.

Water is clear, CCs are normal, and OCLT is improving. You're almost there!!
