Intex pool is leaking around in-wall skimmer and liner is tearing from where screws were put in.

I have a big rectangular intex pool, it’s about 5 yrs old but still in good shape, it’s just me and my husband and he hardly gets in it so it hasn’t been abused. We installed an in-wall skimmer this yr and upgraded our filter system. We put the skimmer in about 3 weeks ago. Haven’t had any issues and now suddenly it’s leaking from the underside and there are tiny holes that looks like it’s tearing from where the screws were put in. I need to get this resolved before the tears co to us further. The gasket is on both sides, the horizontal white line in the picture is the gasket. I’m in a couple of fb pool groups but no one has really been able to explain why this happened. Someone did advise to remove the skimmer, get some vinyl intex patches like people sell on eBay and to use vinyl cement and place a patch over the whole area where this is happening. Then replace the gaskets with new ones and. reinstall the skimmer. I think the idea is to put a double layer of that intex material to stop the tears. If anyone has any advise about this, I would greatly appreciate it.

patching and redoing the skimmer might work. is this on the "sun side" of the pool or has it been taken down and put up repeatedly? personally if the pool has any age on it and might be getting a little brittle, I would just lower the water level below the holes an inch or so and start with maybe some silicon sealer on both sides then reinforce the area well with flex seal tape, at least on the outside (it will work under water too). be sure to place it so that it covers the bottom of the skimmer and into the gasket area and on to the pool wall itself. in other words don't stretch too tight so there are gaps at the angles of those spots. push the tape with your fingers so it seals up against the frame of skimmer, gasket and pool wall. I would then add another length of tape below and overlapping the first one onto the pool wall that would be flat.

my poor old pool was starting to tear over the top of the horizontal bar from sun damage a couple years ago. the flex seal tape is still holding. going on 9 years total in HARSH Arizona climate.

this may have been caused by too low of water when installing skimmer, then when filled it stretched things down.

We had the pool filled about 3/4 of the way. It seemed really tight and stretched when we did it. The pool is on the side of our house that gets a lot of shade but the exterior of the wall does face the sun when it’s hitting that side of the yard. It’s a big 16x32x52 rectangular pool. It stays up all the time. No way we could handle taking that beast down and putting it back up every years.

it may be partly just age and a little stretching that caused it to tear, these things are only meant to have a few years lifespan so getting anything over 5 is probably a good deal. I am going to try for 10 but the bottoms of my legs are all rusting out and the lumber to prop them up is too much $$$ right now :ROFLMAO:
