I would really like to completely remove this scum line at the water edge that is on my pool steps. Brushing alone is not very effective and I don't know what type of cleaner to use that will not cause a problem for the pool water. Can I get a recommendation for what is safe and effective to use? image1.jpeg

Try a Magic eraser on the steps -
Keeping your fc levels in high target range for your cya FC/CYA Levels should help as well.
If u think it’s mildew use a 50/50 bleach solution.
Is this line present all the way around the pool?

I will try a Magic Eraser on the steps. I know that my FC level is currently low and needs to be increased. I do not think it is mildew. There is discoloration of the pool liner all the way around the pool but not anything like on the pool steps. Just a side note is that the liner is being replaced this year. It is 21 seasons old and well past when it should have been replaced. Typically, as the pool season continues the line around the steps will go away but I wanted to remove it now rather than wait.

Also, it looks like u have just opened the pool. Have u done an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test ?
You are correct in that I just opened the pool. This is really the first weekend that I have been able to do anything with it other than opening it and getting everything operational. I have not done an overnight chlorine loss test. I have the TF-100 test kit. Is that kit sufficient for the overnight chlorine loss test? If not, where can I get the proper test kit for this check?

Yes - just follow the instructions
here 👉 Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
U will use the fas/dpd test (drops & powder) included in your kit.
If u pass the oclt - maintain target 🎯 fc levels for your cya FC/CYA Levels
and all other recommended levels

If u fail the oclt - proceed with SLAM Process

Thanks for the advice on the overnight chlorine loss test. I will get that done this coming weekend.
