I just switched to a SWG. Using a Pentair IC-20. I'm having trouble keeping my FC up. My salt is a little high at 4350 but the SWG is not giving me any trouble codes. I'm running an Intellicenter. I havent run an overnight loss yet but I added a 1/2 gallon of liquid chlorine last night and dont see any FC this morning. I added the rest of it this morning and will check later today. I have the cover on so there will be no loss from the sun. The water is VERY clear and clean looking. Could it be possible that I have some algae and dont know it?

Either that or your IC20 isn't producing. The fact you added some chlorine last night and still have zero this morning is concerning. Definitely time for an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. I would also add about 8 ppm of chlorine as well.

Another odd thing is that it seems like my CYA disappeared. I was at 30 before I added the salt. Then went to zero. I added 3 gallons Tuesday to get it up to 50.

I'm just temporary using the 20 until my supplier gets my IC40. Is the 20 inadequate for temporary?

This time of year, you'll need to run it [nearly] 24/7 @100%. Figure out how long you want to run it and supplement with liquid chlorine to equal your daily FC loss.

Have you considered the IC 60. It will be a better value for your size pool. Maybe they have one in stock?

I'm not sure why I'm not reading any FC. Added 2 gallons of LC last night and 1 gallon of stabilizer to get to 70 CYA. I ran the pump last night and had the IC20 at 100%. This morning my FC is 0. Tried 2 different test kits to make sure they were correct.

I also tested salt and that came to 6000ppm. My IC20 says 4400(the number I've been using). My Total Alkalinity is 160. Not sure why. Is the reason my salt may be going up because the LC I use is 12.5% Sodium Hypochlorite?

0.0 FC
7.6 pH
160 TA
270 CH
70 CYA
6000 SALT
81 °F TEMP
-0.02

Two gallons of 12.5% LC should raise FC by close to 10. Try adding a gallon and test within 20 minutes after circulation. Check the date code on the bottle. Five digits, first two are year, last three are the day of the year.

How does the water look?

Each gallons adds about 8 ppm of salt.

I think this may be my problem. Ammonia?

Did you add the gallon and test?

I didnt do the test officially but 2 days ago I put a gallon in and it went to 0 in less than an hour. I also lost all my CYA.

I think I might be getting past the problem. I added 2 gallons yesterday afternoon. In a couple hours it was gone. Added 2 more gallons last night and got to 15ppm. This morning its at 5ppm.

One thing I noticed is that I could see cloudy areas last night in my white LED pool lights. Its almost like the chlorine was attacking the ammonia (if thats what it is). Water is still perfectly clear today.

How are you testing CYA?

Whatever my problem was cleared up. Pool is holding chlorine fine and there is no overnight loss. Now my only issue is the IC20. It just barley keeps up at 100%. Hopefully my IC40 or 60 will be in soon.

I can only guess that I had ammonia or maybe a little bit of algae but I dont know where it would have been hiding. The 4 gallons of shock I added Friday killed whatever it was off. Hopefully I'll have a summer of Trouble Free Pooling now!
