Backwash Waste Line - Piping or hose or hose bib ?

Hi all,

Hayward DE Grid Filter here with a Superpump 1.5 hp. I want to hook something up to my waste line for when I am lowering the water or backwashing. I am not a fan of the flex hose many use similar to that which connects to a sump pump. The pressure is too much I think with one of those hoses only secured to the multiport with a hose clamp and if it lets go, it could be disastrous as the filter is only 3 feet from a basement window. Should I hard plumb it with PVC to a nearby gutter drain which leads to the street ? If I plumb it from a 1.5 inch down to a garden connection point, is the pressure too powerful when lowering water or backwashing ?

I have such a phobia about a catastrophic burst of something outside near that window whether it be the waste line or another pipes just blowing. ANY IDEAS HOW TO PROTECT THE WINDOW ? It is level with the grade. Thank you very much.

Either PVC or perhaps a fire hose? Checkout the discussion below.

you could hard plumb a 90 degree facing away from the house that you then connect to your drain line. at least that would have the water flowing away from the basement window in case of hose failure.
If you always disconnect the b/w hose after b/w, you wont have my problem, but i leave mine attached [It runs along the outside of the fence into the woods]. I have had so many occasions of my MPV leaking around the gasket, that i continue to use a collapsible hose connection so i can easily detect any leakage when i turn the pump back on. and yes i only turn it in one direction and only when pump off. hardly ever happens but when it does, i can fix it so the pump doesn't run dry.

Thank you, yes I hard plummed it todsay steering away from the house. I put two 90's in to point it towards the pool. From there I connect the flex hose and let it extend into the drain during the season. Thank you all for the advise. Great to have this forum. Years ago the local pool supply houses could answer some question but now it is like Home Depot, you only have an hourly employee with minimal experience.
