Stain / Weird Markings in Deep End , what is this?

Our pool is almost 2 years old now and probably for the last 6 months at least there’s been this weird discoloration/stain on floor and I have no idea what it is.

In bright sunlight you can barely see anything - but in cloudy sky or evening it’s very noticeable and ugly

I’ve scrubbed a billion times with soft brushes as well as wire brush doesn’t seem to do anything. Doesn’t feel like anything on feet either.

Salt water pool btw (recently added a couple chlorine pucks to boost chlorine high to see if that would help but hasn’t made a difference)

On first glance, it looks like copper staining. But looks can be deceiving. Have you used any products with copper?
Not that I know of - salt water system and only thing I ever put in regularly is muriatic acid to lower pH.

I used some Kemtek algaecide a few times last year when water looked a little cloudy/geeenish once , but that is copper free from what I understand

Did those pucks you added, have the word "blue" in brand name? Blue in most cases means copper.
No just normal tablets and only added that recently to see if it would do anything to the stains which it hasn’t changed

Googling around maybe “dirt scale” ? Anyway to test or know if that’s the case, seems kinda like a catch all if u can’t figure out other cause almost

It looks like copper and your description sounds like copper, but unless you added a copper algaecide or mineral product that seems odd.

Yikes. Recently when I was buying salt, I read some horror stories in Amazon reviews about contaminated salt that sounded a lot like this. The reviewer claimed to have tracked down the salt source to fracking byproduct.

I of course know that Amazon reviews are a flaky source of information, but it sounded legit (I believe it pointed here) and did convince me to buy a brand name with pristine reputation even though it was more expensive.

Sorry I can't find the review any more to check the details, but recall the stain turned out to be some uncommon mineral that was difficult to treat.

Turns out there's an article here about Chlorox salt, too. This is saying the problem is iron, but who's to say what impurities could come from fracking waste? Did you add Chlorox salt?
