Hey all.

I’ve had my pool for about 2-3 months now. This forum has been a god send for information and help with chemistry and best practices. Thank you all.

I’ve started noticing I find insects in the pool. This one in particular. It appears at least semi aquatic as it is always under water and I find maybe 7-10 at a time, mostly in the shallows but also in the deep. Never together. The pool is enclosed so I’m not sure where they are coming from. Best guess is up from under the travertine? Anyone have any idea what they are and how to get rid of them?

Welcome! Well, I'm no entomologist, but you're not alone. Across the country our TFP pools get a variety of insects that seem to love our crystal clear and clean water. Beetles, backswimmers, and much more. For those that crawl, a good perimeter protection seems to help but never guaranteed. Maybe some locals from your area will have more to add.

Just to follow up in case it helps anyone, I've identified the insect as Atlantoscia Floridana, aka Florida Fast. It is an isopod that enjoys humidity, and is native to Florida. They do not appear to be aquatic, they simply make their way into the pool. I've seen them moving about on the pool walls and shallows so perhaps they tolerate anaerobic environments for some time. I bought some food grade DE to spread around the enclosure perimeter and hopefully that will deter them from entering.
