Recently bought this house, pool has an auto fill system so it has always stayed full.

So I converted to salt and have been noticing my salt and CYA levels dropping very fast, there is no rain or splash out right now.

Anyways I shut off the auto fill system and it dropped like 3 inches overnight and it was sucking air this morning

I have no clue where the water is going but I am going to fill it back up and leave the pump off for a day to see if it drops with the pump off. Any ideas? Thanks

If there are no obvious damp areas in the yard to indicate a pressure-side leak, it could be anywhere. Before the temps get too hot, now is a good time to let it drop. Better for the exposed plaster. Where it stops is your leak waterline/area. It may stop at the skimmer mouth, or perhaps drop to the light niche (very common). In some cases though, it may be a return jet or even a leak at the main drain (hydrostatic valve). Time will tell. The link below may help. Also be sure to update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info. It could help.

I found the problem, when we had a tree stump removed by the side of the pool they must have broken the line to the water feature. Anyways I figured it out by all the salt crystals forming on my artificial turf.

I'm telling YA....... salt pools are just magical. A few years into being a convert, they will have to pry that SWG out of your cold dead hands.

Glad it was an easy find/fix. :)

I tried to upload a picture but it’s saying the file is too big, but it’s not fixed yet I just shut the valve to the water feature until I can fix it.

Unfortunately I will have to lift up my turf and dig it up and see what happened

It rotates my photos when resizing
My iPhone had a glitch, or a glitch on the backend that occasionally rotated them. Maybe 1 out of 20. If I deleted the attachment and did it again it was good for the next however many times.

Give that a try. :)

So I can understand the crack in the elbow from the stump removal, but the nail in the pipe well below the surface? How did that happen?

Sorry I forgot to explain what happened… we had artificial turf put along the pool and they nailed it down. One nail went into the pipe and one nail in the elbow, no damage was caused by the stump removal.

I repaired the pipe the turf company is coming back to re install the turf

Well that explains it! With our pool, patio and landscaped areas, we have very little grass remaining in our backyard. One of the remaining areas was pretty trampled down with an outdoor kitchen remodel, so I’m thinking of having artificial turf installed, too. Are you happy with it, and if so, can you share the brand of turf you chose? Thanks.

I actually sell artificial turf so it’s a little embarrassing our crew did this to my own yard🤦🏻‍♂️ but they had no idea the pipes were just below the surface and I wasn’t around when it was installed

We sell Tiger turf, it’s USA made. Whoever you go with try to stick with USA made it’s far superior to the import stuff.

My brother is in Chandler... He has fought a win/lose battle w/ actual grass. I'm going to send him your pics. lol

Are the pool lines normally that shallow in AZ?
It is a water feature, but yeah they should of burried them deeper typical pool builder

I’m actually in Gilbert, real grass is a struggle out here turf is the best option

How long are the nails? Is it a standard industry length? I am curious because for my build I used turf surrounding the pool. I figured I had a leak last year so I ended up isolating the spa and it dropped precipitously over three days or so till it stopped at the side drain. Once the water stopped dropping, I had the plaster company come back out and fix the leak. However, I still think I am losing water. Not as much as before the spa leak was fixed. The turf nails hitting pvc pool plumbing would make sense.

In the photo below, it shows the spa level falling and also it shows the turf surrounding the pool. You say you saw salt crystals? So I am asking how long the turf nails are to try to determine if that could be my problem.

3 1/2” inches long , what I suggest and the way I figured out my problem was to shut off any auto water feeders

Run the pump a couple days moving the valves to different returns every couple days to see when you start losing water. Mine was only when I ran my water feature so it was easy to isolate

Is your salt or CYA level dropping? This is how I figured out I was losing water
