Inlet/Outlet Plug for cleaning the filter cartridge?

Hi all,

Got my pool setup for the first time and kids are loving it. I am not minding the maintenance, however, there is one step that I really dislike and am dumbfounded that there isn't an apparent solution I have been able to find.

My pool has two points of exit for water to the filter which get fitted with a friction fit inlet that has a threaded grid to catch debris. The outlet is very similar. (Setup shown in the pump diagram attached)

The pool came with 3 rubber plugs that can (with great force applied) fit into the holes in the side of the liner, however, once you add in the inlet/outlet housings, the hole diameter is reduced and there is no way to plug these. I watched a video where a guy had the rubber plugs reversed, ie. the "nipple" part was facing out but it looked like he screwed it on, and there is nothing to hold these in place, and they are too tall to screw on the grids to hold in place.

I'm guessing this pool uses 1.25" hoses from reading up, and the hole is likely reduced to 1". I found some expandable rubber plugs but they seemed to be for holes sized 1.25" and up. It is not fun having to wrestle with the entire housing to pull it out, in order to wrestle with putting in the black plug each time I want to clean my filter, which so far has had to be every 2-3 days.

I'm hoping there is an obvious solution that I've simply overlooked. So far the only surefire method I have seen is to replace the majority of the plumping or spend a bit to replace the trash T connector they gave me with one that has flow control valves. This still would not solve the issue with the outlet, or do I not need to plug that when changing the filter cartridge?

Thanks for any guidance you can provide!
Peter

Back in the olden days, I used to pick up my tiny cartridge filter and place it on the pool ladder to open it up. Raising it higher than the surface of the pool water helped to keep water loss down.

I recently come into this sort of issue when trying to convert to the bigger filter. The two outlet hoses' inside diameter is about an hair smaller than a 1" PVC pipe, I end up sanding the 1" PVC pipe down so it can fit inside the Bestway outlet hoses and then use hose clamps. Once that 1" PVC part done, I installed a ball valve to stop the water. I'll take a picture later...
