I just opened my CCP 420 filter for the first time last night, and all four cartridges are installed with the “bottom” marking to the top. Does it matter which way they are installed? Since all four were installed opposite of their marking, I thought I’d better check with the experts before I tore it up next week. 73DEE114-4A4C-464F-8165-5A6C6C07C281.jpeg

Interesting.. I do not think mine have a bottom or top and if they do I have never followed it :)

I will look at mine tonight and let you know as I just got a new set.. (y) but I would think you would flip them.. when you flip them the other side is going to say bottom :laughblue:

There’s a joke in there somewhere about keeping a hillbilly busy...

Good news !!! I just checked with our Aussie friends and they said it’s right. At least from their perspective.......

Don’t they pop right out on a small slip collar like thingy ? Should be real easy to pull and see what’s on the other side. Definitely weird tho. If it was random and not on purpose one would think at least one was right side up. A 50/50 chance 4 times would have a 93.75% chance of getting at least one right. Unless it’s a factory misprint.

Well, now I want to know... Did you flip one over and see what the other side said?????

I wonder if the 'bottom' mark is for the orientation of the end caps, when building the filter. Not necessarily for filter orientation. Filter orientation shouldn't matter in the housing, as the water flows from the outside to the inside of the elements.

I just checked my brand new 320 filters and it they do not say bottom or top on any of them

Interesting, those filters are not Pentair, they are Pleatco filters.. You should have received official Pentair filters but I bet Pentair filters are made by Pleatco :)

That’s interesting. They are definitely pleatco, and it did come in a sealed Pentair box, stretch-wrapped, etc. I wonder if they had supply constraints and had to go with unbranded filters for a while. In any event, that tells me I shouldn’t waste any $$ on genuine filters.

Well I obviously had to - curiosity would’ve killed me. Just said Pleatco. I wonder if it is indeed a manufacturing thing or something, as I can’t see any difference at all other than the marking. It would be very unusual for a pleated filter like that to have a specific orientation. Weird.

That is funny because I bought a second set of Pleatco filters that are in my filter now for the year... :)
