Purechlor salt generators

My Purechlor croaked last year and it was under 2 years old. The company quickly replaced it. I had to send the old one back only after I received the new one. Thankfully, or I could not have run my pool with the missing piece of plumbing. So great qudos for taking care of the customer but minus points for the short lived product.

Warranties are a dirty little secret in the chlorinator business. They are never as they are advertised. In the case of PureChlor they advertise a 5 year limited warranty. If you dig into the details of their warranty, you find that it's actually a PRO-RATED warranty. First wo years are covered at 100% replacement. Years 3-5 at a price not exceed 60% of the current MSRP of the product at the time of the warranty claim. The MSRP is rarely disclosed. At least you can find this information buried on their website. Most of the other cell manufacturers fail to tell you this information because it gives then the ability to adjust MSRP at their whim and it ends up with years 3-5 (or whatever the proration periods are) being worthless as your replacement cost will be the same as buying a new unit. So in your case, consider this to be a two year warranty.

You'll also need to provide proof of purchase to process any claims.
My PureClor experience exactly. After 2 years replacement is essentially retail price. I have had 2 cells and both just made it a bit over 2 years.

You are validating a recommendation I have made many times in this forum. $/lb chlorine, warranty, reputation here are very important factors in deciding a manufacturer and model. It's not just the warranty period but also do they honor it. Pentair and Circupool seem to have quite a few incidents reported here where they do indeed honor their commitment. Sometimes with a little hassle factor and often with none. All manufacturers do seem to have some defects. Most high quality units with no defects should last 10,000 to 15,000 hrs. All decline in chlorine production over time at least some. This also is another reason that it's important to follow the TFP recommendation for sizing at 2x your pool volume. If your chlorinator barely meets the production new you will be supplementing with liquid chlorine very early and that defeats a lot of the purpose of having a salt system.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to post this in case there is anyone else considering a PureChlor system. We have had our system since May 2018. We have already had to replace the cell (May 2020) - warranty wouldn’t cover it; temp sensor (May 2020) - warranty did cover it; and the power supply (May 2021) - warranty covered that. Still having problems. I am now cutting my losses and going with a new salt system. Don’t waste your money. They are junk.
