Hi- I am brand new to this and and looking around this site, knew y'all would be the people to ask! We are looking to put a pool in and doing it all on our own ?. We are looking at a good size T-Shape pool from Pool Warehouse (about 35,000 gallons) and hoping to place an order within the next week. When talking with them they mentioned Aqua Genie's since we didn't want to put a bottom drain in. However, when looking into it, I can't find much about the product, which makes me VERY nervous. Can y'all give me advice and if any of y'all have it do you recommend it or should we go with just a reg skimmer and returns with no main drain? I keep leaning toward the tried and true reg skimmer way but my husband leans towards the Genie?. If it matters we are doing a Salt Water Chlorination System. Thank you in advance for your help as the ordering process makes me nervous about making the right decisions. I am sure I will have more questions along the way!

Might be a little late for this, but I have an aqua genie and it really got put to the test this year when my pool was super swampy when I opened it. Had it cleared up in 3 days, I am a fan of the aqua genie, trying to figure out how to close it properly now :)

Hi, this is my first pool, I would like to state that. Following the TFP water balance methods, I have always had clear water. The filtration pull is pretty impressive, though without swimming or manipulation there is some buildup around the steps. When I opened this year after a mild winter I had a swamp and this system really shined for me. Had water clean in 3 days of slam. It only has one return so there is less plumbing which means less likely for there to be an issue. Here is day 1, 2, and 3 this year. Also I am learning that this set up is very easy to close.

So you're saying a pool that is built poorly with only one return benefits from the water movement of this device? So its helpful for circulation, right?

The device didn't help the chemistry though. A daily brushing and liquid chlorine as part of a SLAM process fixed the swamp.

All I am saying is it has worked well for me. I am not sure what makes you think the pool was built poorly. It has been easy to keep clean and there is plenty of circulation, I rarely even need to use the hand skimmer. This pool has been an absolute joy to own and maintain. Yes, I understand water chemistry, but you won't clean the green without circulation which involves the skimmer.

ah sorry,, I could have sworn you wrote you only had one water return in this pool. That would imply a poor build plan, IMO. So I can see where this expensive skimmer option improves the circulation of your pool.

Glad the pool has been wonderful :)
