Water level dropping

Currently I am losing a few inches of water over 8-10 hours. Stops just below the skimmer. I fixed the visible plumbing leaks that I could find. There is a small leak coming from the multiport valve. My back flow line is buried under ground and seems to be broken somewhere so I can’t tell if the water is leaking out through there while the pump is running. Been raining the last few days so The ground is wet. (Can’t use find the wet spot in the ground to tell if it is bypassing.) I have a new gasket ordered so it will be getting replaced anyway. My question is, if that gasket went bad, is it possible that the water is leaking past and going out the back flow discharge.thanks in advance for any help.

Here is a pic of current set up Incase it is needed. We just bought the house in November and this is the first time opening it up. Pool has been closed for a few years I’m told. Have not had any water loss over the winter.

Yes it's possible. But with the symptoms described it could be a leak in the skimmer. Let's see if we can get some more data to work with.
  1. Does the level lower with the pump off
  2. Do you see any signs of air leaking into the pool
  3. Can you find where your backflow line daylights and check for flow?
  4. If you have a main drain, can you try shutting off the skimmers and only taking a suction on the main drain? does level still lower?
  5. If you don't have a main drain but multiple skimmers, can you shutting off one skimmer at a time and seeing if level still lowers?

Could you possibly take a couple more pictures, it's really hard to see anything from that angle.

Also, if you suspect leakage to the backflow you could either
  1. Cut the pvc to check for leakage and then put a connection in (or cut out a whole section and replace it, possibly adding a union in to make future work easier)
  2. Pull that sightglass out of your multiport valve and check for leakage there (warning: the sightglass may be fragile and/or not want to come out)

Here are a few more pics. I’m not sure if it is crossing over to the back flow, just a guess. I will cut it once I get enough water back in the pool to test the filter again.

1. Water level does not drop with pump off
2. No air noticed since I fixed the 2 plumbing leaks. (Water was dropping before I fixed them.)
3. The back flow line is broke underground as water comes up 4’ from the pump during backwash.
4. Looks like I have a main drain but I don’t think I can isolate it.
5. I do have 2 skimmers. Haven’t tried that yet. Will need to get more water back in the pool and see.

Changing the spider gasket and the filter lid gasket stopped my water loss issue. Running much better. Filter lid is air free now as well. Got one small drip to fix out of PVC fitting. Hoping that will stop my pump from losing prime over night when turned off.
