Help! Mystery with SWG breaker!

Hi all. I have a Hayward T-9 SWG.

Background: : At the start of LAST YEAR’s pool season, I believe the panel had gotten wet and the SWG breaker tripped quit a bit for a day or two (about 5-6 times). However, after a few days it worked fine and never tripped again For the remainder of the entire summer (2 plus months). See picture of electrical setup. My SWG is on a separate breaker and is not electrically connected to my pump.

This year, the SWG stays on, for days, but then will randomly trip. Sometimes at night, sometimes during the day. When I Reset it, It will stay on, SWG resumes normal operation and nothing seems to be the problem. Typically it will stay on for 1-3 days before tripping again.

I thought it was a weak gfci - so I called an electrician out this past Monday (5/11) and he replaced the gfci. After he replaced the gfci, It stayed on, didn’t trip (I checked numerous times each day), but this morning it was off again and tripped! After 4 days! So frustrating!

Does the circuit board need to be replaced or at I missing something?

The SWG should be powered from the same switch as the pump.

It looks like the pump is 240 volts and the SWG is 120 volts.

Can you convert the SWG to 240 volts and connect it to the same switch as the pump?

Thanks. I’ve heard that’s ideal setup but I wasn’t the original home owner that built the pool,so not sure why it was done like it was. I can’t personally - guess I would have to call an electrician. But not sure if that is really the problem? Been in the home for 2 plus years and this has never happened before.

GFIs trip for a reason. If the GFI is not worn out (they do) then it is probably tripping due to an actual fault. Your electrician should check and see what he finds.

Only other item - I noticed my flow switch has a slight problem with exposed wire, I’m going to fix with electrical tape - but I don’t think this would cause the SWG breaker to trip

You need to have the SWG wired correctly so that it doesn't explode.

The gfci trip is probably an actual problem.

Check for ground faults.

Do you have a picture of the inside of the SWG box?
