We are designing a Mediterranean look and considering the black and white tile layout shown on the outdoor dining room picture here.

We likely will tile around the pool with green this way, but based on maintenance we probably won't tile the entire interior finish of the pool. Still, if you can help or guess please do so I can do some research before talking to a professional.

Thanks!

I've used pools where they place the tile in a certain way with lots of grout to make it safe to walk. More common outside the US. I agree its something we are strongly considering and want to be very certain it will be done by someone who knows how to do it right.

Definan tile all over including inside the pool. It is very common on Europe, there are some tiles that are rated for outdoor use, i know in Puerto Rico a lot of people use them on driveways... if you go with the option of installing tile, you will probably need to be in warm climate year round, otherwise they will pop.

Most outdoor tile is porcelain and there are variations that are quarry tile like used in commercial kitchens. Make sure any tile you use has outsoor rating with UV grade. Remember all that style of tile is either hand painted or injected the Vegas sun will roast regular tile.

Also keep in mind there are LOTS of paver choices that can be done to look Mediterranean style and will be timeless. That look is trendy right now but maybe not so in 10 yrs. An old Mercedes or Porsche never goes out of style

Sorry for the delay and thanks for the replies @Neto and @jimmythegreek .

This is what I was hoping for - thanks! It makes sense there are outdoor tiles and that I should really be careful to get the right ones rated for my weather. I am in Las Vegas and it is warm most of the year, but it is the desert so it will get cold for a few months. Should I be worried @Neto?

@jimmythegreek What did you mean when you said "that look is trendy right now"? Which style would be timeless, Mediterranean?

IF I where you, I would look for a stone type tile, the one you can actually grind and polish like travertine, marble or granite. I am sure those will hold very well, however i am not sure on the tile.. Maybe look around your neighborhood and see if there are any tile installations on the walkway, garage or patio and see how it held up.
