Replacing pump or adding second one?

Okay, everyone pleases bear with me here as I am VERY new to pools. We recently put up a Splash Super Pool (41'x21x4') above ground. The pool and equipment was used but well taken care of. The previous owner ran two Hayward 1.5 HP pumps and two Pentair SD-60 filters (one for each pump). The pool was used for Dock Dogs heavily with her and was obviously filtering a lot of dog hair. Currently, I am running one Hayward 1.5HP (serial: K48M2A3C1) and one Pentair SD-60 filter. There is two skimmers and two returns in the pool. I also have two dome solar heaters on each return line. The pool is still being used for Dock Dogs but only my 3 dogs and of course our family using it as well. Okay, so here is my question/concern. The skimmer closest to the pump is running at what I would call an "just okay" rate. The skimmer opposite the pump and approximate 65' of pipe (1-1/2") away is barely noticeable at all. I can't feel any suction from the inlet at all. I'm considering replacing the one 1.5 HP pump I have with a new Hayward 1.5 HP Super Pump (SP2610X15 ) or adding a second pump to the existing one I have. One for each skimmer/return. I have run the calculations several times and determined there is a total of ~54 feet of head. I'm sure I missed some information you may need. Just let me know and I'll answer the best I can! Attached pictures of filter and pump.

Welcome to the forum!

I think your problem lies elsewhere. I run two skimmers at half speed which should be at much lower flow rates than your pump can produce.

What speed is the motor running?

What is the current filter pressure?

When was the last type you back washed the filter?

Some have a switch on the back cap that selects hi, lo, and sometimes off. But that was an option I had to add to the last one I bought. Basically the speed is selected by which one of two wires has power. Should be a wiring diagram on the motor. I attached the diagram that came with my 230v motor switch as an example of what your looking for.

If the filter is reading 2 psi, the pump is probably on low speed which will have lower flow rate than high speed. However, the flow rate should still be sufficient to operate the skimmers properly. The water should flow over the top of the weir door.

See if you can change the speed to high speed and then report filter PSI.
