Well that’s what you get for screwing around when it’s “close enough.”

Once balanced, my pool is very very stable.

TA was 100
pH 7.2

Was in it six hours yesterday with the extended family. Another pool function coming up Tuesday.

Was hoping to shift pH to 7.5-7.6 or so.

Pulled out the soda ash an hour ago. Pool math said 42 oz.

Ten scoops (2oz I believe, came with it) and an hour later and the pH is 8.2 and possibly higher.

TA is 110. Thought that would be higher but glad it isn’t.

Pump is on high and I hate to throw in MA but unless you guys say something different, that’s the plan.

Thanks.

I haven’t found anything that says there are different strengths of soda ash.

I put half of what pool math app said to and that was to raise 0.3 pH
If the original pH was taken before swimmers, it was likely aerated up before you added the soda ash.

Plug in your numbers and target 7.6 and add whatever acid. It may take a second dose if you're off the top of the scale.

I find the Effects of Adding function in PoolMath help me to decide what to use to accomplish changes. Since all you wanted to do was raise pH a hair, borax would have raised the pH without affecting your TA as much.

I just had a similar situation where my pH was 7.2 but I wanted it at 7.5. Aeration hadn't raised it at all. I ran the numbers in PoolMath and it showed that adding 10 oz borax to my pool resulted in a shift of pH of 0.3 and a rise in TA of 4.8, which I was happy with. In reality the pH got raised to 7.5 and the TA wasn't affected at all.

In your situation, I think adding MA or dry acid is your only hope, Obi Wan.
