I had ordered one from Pool Supplies Unlimited and just looked up this thread. The older model was $579 with free shipping but I noticed the comments about the better quality in updated one, cancelled that order and went on Solar Breeze website where they have the NX2 with 50.00 off and free shipping so same price as the the older model. I called to see if they had any promotions and she gave me the code! I think it has to do with Mothers Day so might be ending soon in case someone is interested. I am excited as our pool is surrounded by trees and I am constantly net skimming the top of the pool even while we are swimming. Great Mother's Day prez to myself!

I would like to see the option of charging it via a plug. You stated yourself did not charge good the first day due to clouds. Well there needs to be a secondary way to charge this thing if you get consecutive days of clouds. There are a few surface skimmers on the market that allow you to charge either via solar or via power cord. I have one, a second generation model and I still don't think surface skimmers are ready for prime time. Does it skim the stuff off your tiles? Of course not, you still have to run a skimmer net next to your tiles to get that stuff. 600 + bones for a replacement? I don't think so, not yet anyway!

Pretty cool. I like it. I do like the energy savings aspect as well (not running pump as long). I can already see myself modifying it slightly with a small led front light and red and green navigation lights on the sides.

One of my long time pet peeves with skimmers was the fact that the baskets did not trap the finer particles that seem to float on the surface and just sent all that junk into the filter. Not long ago, I seemed to have overcame that issue by utilizing hair nets in my two skimmer baskets and I also use the "Scum Buddys" sold on TFTestkits.net. Both have made me a little bit happier with the skimmers now.

Not sure I want to invest in one at present, but I certainly do like it. Like anything, "you get what you pay for"

Thanks! I appreciate your post that helped inform my decision. I love it so far. Had to adjust water level so it I didn't get stuck in my overhang but it was well worth the money to me as it picked up all the floating stuff even while we were enjoying the pool yesterday. It also had cleaned all the grass clippings along with the other skimmer by the time my husband had finished mowing the yard. This cut down at least an hour of his time in cleanup as our pool is surrounded by grass as well and it keeps blowing in for quite a while after. As to charging in cloudy weather, the thing worked until 5 am. and our pool is 3/4 shaded after 2pm and it also charged ok on the mostly cloudy day the day after I got it. It is new to me but I'm very happy with the purchase.
