Before I cut - what am I fixing? Ha!

This is my booster pump, it says Pentair 3/4 horsepower Model LA01N.

Not quite sure what is housing and what is pipe.

It is leaking from the second joint where my ruler touches. It that flanged PCV above the first joint screwed into the housing? And is a compression fitting? They glued or caulked in that joint between the vertical pipe and the flanged piece and it is now leaking (11 years later). Typical construction?

I assume the vertical pipe is glued to the elbow above.

I just don't know how to disassemble. Do I need to cut before the elbow to re-assemble the entire down pieces to the pump?

I have not tried to glue over the leak, why it needed caulk/glue in the first place? If that is a suggested fix, what should I use?

Thanks for any help, although it may seem simple to most, I know I'll likely make excessive cuts if I don't ask first!

Both the suction and discharge of the volute are threaded fittings, does the pipe above the ruler thread into the larger adapter

So I cannot see the underside of large pipe's fitting. And with painted over hard to tell what's glue.

1. With coupler above ruler showing wrench marks, something has to screw above right? Unless someone tried and realized no go.

2. If threaded above would you guess the top joint of couple or threaded cap on the large elbow pipe?

3. So now I'm thinking leaking joint is pipe compound and not caulk glue right?

Yes, no, maybe would be enough help.

Hmm but why so much material if is joint compound? Is this a typical configuration?

Very well could be, but to unthread you still will have to cut somewhere to take out and put back in. Some use pipe dope and others will use teflon tape and caulk. I like plasto joint stick.Plasto Joint Stick Thread Sealant 1.25oz | 11775

Glad to see that ruler has centimetres on it

All that gunk could be a past attempt to stop the drip by spreading some magic goop on the outside. Ordinarily, stuff applied on the outside will not solve a water leak on the pressurized side.

+1 to thread sealant when you put it back together. Works a charm.
