Thanks for the help all... Calcium Hardness is now inline. Will be working on CYA next (didn't test today as I'm running out of reagent and haven't yet added more Stabilizer)

Following up, water looks fantastic. Having issues getting CYA and CH up. Added 4lbs of Chlorox Chlorine Stabilizer, CYA reading is still <30. Added 5lbs De-Icer ("Splash Ice Melt, Snow & Ice Melter"). Did add Chlorine over the weekend. Current Readings FC 4.8 CC 0.0 pH 7.4 TA 110 CH 80...

Help a newbie, first K2006 results

With the hot tub jets running overnight, pH came up though TA didn't decrease. Looks like I'll just store the soda ash for future use. I aimed a little higher with the TA assuming I could bring it down with pH control through aeration. Chlorine also dropped significantly, though perhaps this...

Thanks Richard, took your advice (though added a bit more Chlorine to get closer to 6ppm target. Ordered DeIcer, Stabilizer, and SodaAsh from Amazon, arriving tomorrow. Numbers looking good so far... plan to continue aerating spa which overflows into pool overnight, to raise PH and lower TA...

Help a newbie, first K2006 results

Hi all, just opened the pool and after receiving my K2006 test kit, have initial results below. My pH is extremely acidic (yellow color, well below scale) which helps explain why we are replacing the heater this year. I realize a lot of work is required, curious about the order of what to...

Thanks Jim, good to hear its all about pool chemistry, which I'm dedicated to figuring out! Thank God I stumbled on this forum... I admit I previously tested my water by taking a sample to the Pool Store and adding their chemicals per their instructions.... I know... horrible. I've read that...

New Pool Owner, installing filter backwash?

Thanks Jim - appreciate the welcome! I wasn't aware that cartridge filters didn't need to be backwashed . Thoughts on the pumps / set-up otherwise? Not sure how efficient these pumps are, my electricity bill is through the roof running the 1HP pump 24/7.... Additionally, the pool's...

New Pool Owner, installing filter backwash?

Hi all, now entering my 2nd year with the new house+pool and I know there's GOT to be a better way. I spent 1000s at the pool store and I'm ditching them for good. Been diving into Pool School and FAQs to get up to speed on proper pool ownership. I'm currently having to open the filter and...
