Bullfrog A7 getting heater may be dry, heater too hot after running for ~20 minutes, shuts down

Okay so in order to try to get the bromine levels reading again I should again add: - sodium bromide - renew - and increase number of tablets to around 3 and open up the feeder more? He was saying the large number of tablets are why the bubbles were fizzing when jets were at high speeds

So more tablets and open the feeder more? He was saying it will be corrosive over time to the parts if I have 3 or so tablets in there exposed. Yes. Sodium bromide

Good news all. The pump repair went well. Think we are good to go… Last remaining issue to getting the tub to 100% is getting the bromine to read. Had this issue before. Had to drain and refill. Then had about 3-4 tabs in at a given time. Repair guy said that was way too many for a 500 gallon...

Bullfrog A7 getting heater may be dry, heater too hot after running for ~20 minutes, shuts down

No, but as we get closer to the expensive job of replacing the two pumps I get more and more nervous that somehow this won't fix the issue... just a weird situation overall

Haha sorry I mean I hope it’s NOT the circuit board. Really hoping the pump replacements work once and for all…

I am getting quotes on 2 pump replacements. You all have been fantastic and much appreciated. I am still concerned for some odd reason this won’t fix the problem, mostly because it does seem odd both pumps would have the same issue. I guess the amperage test is the leading indicator but really...

Bullfrog A7 getting heater may be dry, heater too hot after running for ~20 minutes, shuts down

Just to play devils advocate again here… we are not concerned that BOTH pumps seem to be busted? It’s odd they are both broken and pulling too much amperage. Maybe one broke a long time before the other?

Bullfrog A7 getting heater may be dry, heater too hot after running for ~20 minutes, shuts down

Agreed. Just did the amp test and both pumps on high speed are pulling around 14.7 and 14.9 amps. This seems high from my understanding. The circuit board says it should be 12 max and the pump itself says high speed should be around 11.4... closer and closer to seeing that both pumps are likely...

Y'all are amazing, much appreciated... Yup - I spoke with Gecko for an hour today. Super helpful. We ran some of these tests and he was convinced board was fine. He wants me to re-confirm what you've suggested here, but the going to 0V is fine if I had the probes in the right spots because it...

There wasn't a flood, lol. This is how it was when I bought it. Yeah, I am totally open to doing a cleaning. Do you have any resources or guides on how I can do this and how to replace bearings? Really open to anything as it seems weird that both pumps would break at same time... Voltage test...

Bullfrog A7 getting heater may be dry, heater too hot after running for ~20 minutes, shuts down

Okay, back with some more testing data: - Ran heater, pump 1 and pump 2 at full speed with equipment door removed - everything functioned normal, pump 1 got very hot Waited about 15 minutes - Put equipment door back on, turned heater off, started up pump 1 and pump 2 at full speed and both...

Thanks. I will try to consistently reproduce. And then find a buddy to do this test. I’ll try to look at diagrams tomorrow and make sure I understand the test

Do you mind providing the instructions on which part to test? Also BradGray - "We've had this done several times on Tropic Seas Spas. Which use the same Balboa parts most BF do, and it solved the issue of pumps shutting off abruptly and refusing to come back on. However, you've described some...

Will try. Any other tips on how to clean I have a voltmeter yes… So what are my next steps? Should I try to blow air into the pumps?

Bullfrog A7 getting heater may be dry, heater too hot after running for ~20 minutes, shuts down

Not completely. Pump 2 still shut off with the equipment door open and when the heater was on. So based on this we don’t think it’s the filters or incorrect voltage to the pumps? I have an electrical blower. Not sure it is as concentrated as an air compressor, but I may be able to get my hands...
