    Best ball valves?

Replacement pool liner is currently on order, and should be coming this week. I am going to be replacing the skimmer and return, they are currently attached to slider valves, that I absolutely hate. I would love to replace them with ball-valves, but I see a lot of comments that the white plastic...

New liner, AG pool. DIY? Additions?

Hey all, I have been fighting my leaking liner for several seasons now. It seems at the end of every season I'm in 50 degree water patching leaks. So I finally decided that I am going to replace the liner. Originally I was going to have someone put it in, but I have had trouble finding anyone...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

I have two Weis that I frequent, both had the same stuff at $2.62/gallon. I've used it now for 2 years, and it tests right at what PoolMath says, so I haven't found any decrease in potency. I initially bought 24 gallons, when I did, they had two full pallets. I just stopped at that Weis today...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Weis Market has 12.5% Shock, currently on sale from $3.49 to $2.62. Not sure how long the sale lasts, last year the same stuff was $2.24, so it went up a bit, but for the price, it's the best around. Locations are in NEPA, and date code is 19079, so not old stock.

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Brand I'll have to get back to you on. Bottles were located outside. They also had algaecide of the same brand. It was a sale price for $2.24, even the normal price was $2.99. I used a bottle today and after testing my water, FC levels were exactly what PoolMath said they would be. I was...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Weis, which is a Grocery store has 12.5% for $2.24 a gallon. I just wiped out my local store. I'll check the date-code in a while, but at that price, couldn't resist.

    Closing Down, want to update.

My wife and I just purchased our home with a 16x26.5' AG pool. The season went great, didn't have a spec of green hit all season and monitored all the levels via the TFP method. The original owner has sliding valves installed at the skimmer and return, however, the handles are broken off, and...

Opening soon, critique on my thought process?

Well it took all day, from finishing the filling to getting the Chlorine in. It was quite a day, when I had initially tested, after getting my pool filled, the results were: FC - 0 pH - 6.5 TA - 20 CH - 150 CYA - 40 I had some left over pool store PH Plus and used roughly 4 pounds in total. I...

Opening soon, critique on my thought process?

Well, I got it all opened up! It turned out to be significantly easier than I had thought. It looks like at 60% full, right when I took the cover off, the CYA was around 60. So I decided to fill it up. According to PoolMath, I should be right at my target of 40 CYA after getting the pool...

Do all filters have a multiport valve?

So if my pump doesn't have a MPV, I guess I couldn't vacuum to waste? I did some more research and it looks like it's a 'sliding valve' that automatically switches the filter to backwash when the bump handle is pulled up. Got it! Thanks!

Do all filters have a multiport valve?

I have been reading about vacuuming and saw someone mention 'vacuuming to waste' I research that a bit and see that some filters have a multiport valve that allows them to perform different functions. Do all filters have these? I found the manual for my pump and nowhere does it mention a...

Opening soon, critique on my thought process?

I spent a long time trying to research the Pool Frog system, it's relatively hard to find information, in fact that searching is what lead me here, so I guess the Pool Frog was good for one thing! He has the whole system apart, so I'll just leave the inline chlorinator off when I hook up the...

Opening soon, critique on my thought process?

I see the shock levels for FC are hugely different. I will have to evaluate CYA. I am slightly concerned the previous owner was "pool stored" and the CYA is going to be high, that is the reason I want to test the water right away before adding any, just in case I need to drain some. I'll post...

Opening soon, critique on my thought process?

Hello all! I am planning to open up my pool this weekend, and just wanted to run down the process that I am planning to use. This is my first year with a pool, my wife and I bought the home from the owners who originally put it in. They left some chemicals behind, including an inline chlorinator...
