So another update after about 17 hours of doing the bucket test. I set it up last night about 9:30 and checked it this afternoon right around 2:30. Level in the bucket was even with the piece of tape when I set it up, and it doesn't appear that it has moved at all. Pool level on the outside...

Yeah I guess since my current level is so low using the tabs for now probably would be alright. Kind of kill 2 birds with 1 stone in providing chlorine, and also raising CYA at the same time. Is there any way to know how much CYA each tab has, or is it just a test and keep an eye on the levels...
