Fafco solar bear vs papa bear

I was basically in the same place you are - seeing all the panel options, seeing slight differences in descriptions and major differences in price, and unable to fully justify an electric heater based on where we live and budget. I chose FAFCO simply because they are a known quantity. The price...

Going on vacation, pool is open, is my plan OK?

AAAAAAaaaaaaand.... we're back. 11 days away. Two neighbors kicked major butt and kept us at ease about how things were going with the pool while we were away, and they shall both find adult beverages on their front porches this afternoon. We made one last minute change to the plan - I bought a...

Fafco solar bear vs papa bear

I will take a look at this ASAP - just got back from our vacation and, as is tradition, testing the pool water following what was an 11-day trip.

Going on vacation, pool is open, is my plan OK?

Some results from today: Tested FC at 7:30 am, pump is off at that time. FC was 5.0. Did not measure CC as I was just out of time with other stuff going on Pulled the solar cover off at 8 am or so. No swimming today. Skimmed the surface and changed out the skimmer sock. Turned the SWCG up from...

Went with an unorthodox solar heater arrangement and don't think it's working optimally

I've read the manual 4-5 times. Guess which section I did not pay any mind to? The one titled "Custom schedules." Because I hadn't really needed that yet, and therein is where the speed settings are. How about that - thanks for the tip.

Went with an unorthodox solar heater arrangement and don't think it's working optimally

Great information Dirk, thank you. For what it's worth, that 12-15* delta was basically the first "batch" of water that had cooked in the panels for a bit out in the sun, before I turned it on. Once that volume is exchanged out of the panels and it's exchanging water more normally, the temp...

Going on vacation, pool is open, is my plan OK?

That's great info. I was thinking flow through the cell would affect output - and maybe it does to some tiny degree - but that at least simplifies things in my head, anyway. Thanks!

Going on vacation, pool is open, is my plan OK?

To be fair, I mostly wanted to see how this was all going to do before I started a new job (started last Monday) and wouldn't have the time I did now. And that worked - heck we used the pool a ton last week thanks to 90* temps and a solar heater that's doing work :) The pump is a 4-speed unit...

Going on vacation, pool is open, is my plan OK?

Thanks all. I'll get the cover off tomorrow morning - and leave it, and set the SWCG to 3, and see what happens. Our pump runs a schedule that is 18 hours per day, so that also is a big detail, I'm assuming.

Also if it helps - I've been testing FC with the TF-Pro kit every morning for about the last two weeks. Those results should all be in my logs.

Going on vacation, pool is open, is my plan OK?

Thank you all! I think on the skimmer my thought was "Am I already asking too much?" That's just my personality, so I really just need to ask. We all help each other out whether in or out of town, so we'll go from there. On the FC demand - I went with an Edge 40 on a 16k gallon pool so it's...

Going on vacation, pool is open, is my plan OK?

Hope this is a good place to post this. Wife and kid and I are going on a long vacation next Wednesday, returning 13 days later on the following Saturday. Our pool is open, details are in my signature. I will update it if it's not there, but one thing to note - our AGP does have a main drain...

Results progression - getting there, thanks to TFP and TF-PRO

Just following up - for the most part, this thing seems to be running itself at this point. TA is now at 80 pH is 7.4~7.5 CYA is up to 70, not adding any additional stabilizer at this point and chlorine only comes from LC or SWCG FC is bouncing between 5.0 and 7.0, based on where I set the salt...

Went with an unorthodox solar heater arrangement and don't think it's working optimally

Just wanted to update this - since switching it around, basically making a "T" on each input and output, and running them essentially in parallel, with a diverter valve on the outlet so I can turn off one panel or another (in case of a leak) or give one panel more priority than another - it...
