i don't even know how to respond to that. i understand the goal of your methods, but also know i have already spent $300 trying to fix my pool and if its going to take another $300+ that is just financially irresponsible. Can you tell me beyond a shadow of a doubt i can fix my pool for less...

oh for sure I don't want to do the pool store method, there is no way I am adding shock to my pool at this point. I just need to get the pool useable for as cheap as humanly possible. telling my wife I need to spend $70 on a testing kit + whatever I am going to need to get the pool itself...

they told me today those numbers are perfect and that I should have a crystal clear pool, then he said to throw 5 bags of shock in it. if I throw 5 bottles of chlorine bleach in it would that do any good?

ok, now i get it. so since i dont have anywhere close to do a drop test is a computer test more accurate than a strip test? Also in the beginning is the TF-50 test kit ok just to get the pool clear, once i prove to my wife your methods are better i am sure i can talk her into the tf-100 or...

ok so if i am reading the Pool School correctly i need to get my CYA or Stabilizer at or near 0ppm, then i need to add enough chlorine to get it to a "shock" level. i need to keep the pump running and filter clean and readjust my CYA and Shock daily. And just keep doing this until the algae is...

what would a good size filter be that will still work with a 62gpm 1hp pump? i have a 200# sand filter i could replace it with but it only says 2.53 sq ft so i am not sure how that is possible.

i do have a gauge but it doesnt work. it quit working about a week after we installed the pool last year. the filter isnt really all that small. its a 100sq ft filter about 4ft tall. i have not yet used a leaf rake, we have just been using a standard pool vacuum.

I personally have read all of those links in Pool School and i do believe we can accomplish the task with minimal chemicals and the filter we already have.....this filtration system worked fine all last year. Granted we are in Pennsylvania so there is only really 3 months worth of swimming...

thanks for the merge, i missed reading the notice about moderator approval when i posted the first time and couldnt figure out what went wrong lol. My wife believes we need a better filter to get the water clear again from the winter, once the water is clear i will just have to maintain it like...
